John Rains House was built in 1860-61 by the influential man John Rains and is a historic house located in the city of Rancho Cucamonga. The place was spacious with three bedrooms, own cooling system, and a patio and was originally used as socializing spot where upscale parties were attended by reputed names. After John Rains was murdered, Isais W. Hellma bought the property and eventually, the house was declared to be a museum and was open to the public during the late 18th century. The Casa de Rancho Cucamonga Historical Society looks after its preservation and restoration and lets out the property on an advance notice.

tripadvisorWe recently were led on a tour of the John Rain House by the delightful caretaker. She is passionate about the history of the house and surrounding area. Far too few people are aware of these gems in the LA area which are often hidden by the modern houses that now surround them.

MoreWe brought a friend from out of town here. Since we moved here a few years ago, we weren't up on all the history of Rancho Cucamonga. The John Rain's house tour gives you a good indication of what life was like as this area was developing with a surprising twist. The docent was very knowledgeable. I'd recommend a visit!
MoreI have lived in Rancho Cucamonga for two years and on a couple of occasion's had seen a brochure for this attraction. Today after lunch I went there on a whim and was I ever impressed. I was the only one there, but received a wonderful personal tour from a most gracious hostess. She told the story of who John Rains was, and how the story included such exciting stories of the old West like murder, heavy debts, mysterious scoundrels, important people in California's history, and also knew about all the furniture and appointments in the house. The cost of $5 was a bargain. Stop by here if you are in Rancho Cucamonga - I think you will be glad you did.
