Professional sport in Pittsburgh is the lifeblood of many 'Yinzers', whether it's the formidable Steelers or the hapless Bucs, people in this town take their teams seriously. Just like the teams, the stadiums are sometimes considered hallowed places. One such place was Forbes Field, where the legendary Roberto Clemente and Bill Mazeroski played. The park opened in 1909 and the Steelers, Pirates as well as the Pitt Panthers played here for more than six decades. Forbes Field held its last game in 1970 and it was knocked down for the monstrous Three Rivers, but thankfully a piece of the left-center field wall still stands. Today, visitors and local Bucs fans can still see the original, brick wall in the Oakland neighborhood on Roberto Clemente Drive, a place that is sacred ground for some.
