Reviews
tripadvisorWe were warmly greeted our first day by Tracey the manager and care taker. Our visit was for three nights. Each morning we had a delicious breakfast made by her, with all the wonderful sides available. Paul, the owner, was available also and was informative and pleasant to talk to. We enjoyed this Inn also because it’s a great walking area close to a great restaurant, store and historical municipal buildings. Fairhaven is a beautiful town with such history in well maintained houses
MoreWhat a little gem! We really enjoyed our stay at the Delano Homestead. We love history, so staying at the home of a whaling sea captain, with its high ceilings and beautiful curved staircase, was a treat. But then, to find out that the home was very significant in the life of FDR was an added bonus. And the proof is there in the many old photos decorating the dining room. Our room, with its high posted king bed, was very comfortable. The property manager Tracey was very kind and made us feel very much at home. I took advantage of it, using the dining room table to write my register to Vote postcards, which seemed very appropriate to the setting. Breakfast was good and plentiful, with eggs and bacon, fresh fruit and yogurt, and an assortment of baked goods. The location could not be better to explore the history of New Bedford, with the NB Whaling Museum and the waterfront, with its many fishing boats, just minutes away. We are already planning a return visit and will really look forward to it.
MoreIf you are into quaint, historic, welcoming, and unique, this is your place. Paul has done an outstanding job assembling just the right furniture, decorations, and conveniences to make your time unforgettable in this homestead. And perhaps homestead is the right way to think about this. It is not a modern hotel. It is decorated the way that one's grandparents or great-grandparents, or wealthy granduncle, would have done in their home had they had the resources to do so. The blankets, the high beds, the cabinets - all take you back to a very different time and place. You may even be able to turn off your iPhone for a while, to take it all in. We also enjoyed the wonderful breakfast that the innkeeper made for us in the dining room, which is also something that needs to be examined very closely, to take in all the history of this home. The house is very well situated, so there is a chance to walk around the interesting neighborhood. In sum, this really is a special place, and not to be missed if you are in the area.
MoreThis Homestead is a rare find these days. A beautiful Historic home on a quiet side street, with only 3 rooms that are Guest quarters, it feels very cozy and warm. You enjoy breakfast in the formal dining room after choosing from, a variety of hot and cold items which are presented on the Kitchen island. Coffee, Tea, Fresh fruit and snacks are available anytime. The house is spotlessly maintained. Lisa the Innkeeper, full of energy and enjoyable to talk to, gave us a warm Welcome and showed us the amenities then brought us to our beautiful, sun filled and spacious room, The Warren. Our private bathroom, tub and shower, was just the next door over. The Bed was amazingly comfortable and linens luxurious. The other 2 rooms have the bath en suite. Paul the owner lives in the Home. He is very willing to converse about his house or the local area. He is a gracious Host.
MoreI’m not sure why there aren’t more reviews for this lovely inn. We were pleasantly surprised and would certainly recommend it.The house is quite fabulous inside and the lovely Elizabeth took her time to explain some of the history. She also cooked a lovely breakfast. Our rooms were beautiful- and, contrary to other comments, we loved the beautiful super high bed. The only reason for 4 rating rather than 5 was that we didn’t have our own bathroom. Nevertheless , it was in a little corridor shared by our teenagers and ourselves. Bathrobes were provided. It still deserves 4.5. I would DEFINITELY recommend this lovely, historic homestead. Do give it a try!
