tripadvisorVisited the Grovewood Gallery, Estes-Winn Antique Car Museum, and the Biltmore industries Homespun Museum. The car museum was fantastic, full of beautifully maintained rare cars. The Gallery is full of good quality hand-crafted items. One of our group is in a wheelchair— the gallery was wheelchair accessible but be advised terrain is hilly and best to unload anyone with mobility issues up by the shop & museums, not in parking lot. When the gallery staffer learned we wanted to visit the car and homespun museums, she called the gentleman in charge of the car museum and he came over with a good quality metal ramp, which he later moved to the 2nd museum. Could not have been kinder or more helpful. The homespun museum also interesting.
MoreThe Village was okay to explore - nothing too substantial to see. However, I'm not a big fan of old cars, but it was interesting to see ~15 or 20 of them. The experience was free to walk around - and there were a few buildings to see. I would say - < 1 hour to see it all.
MoreWent back to spend more time at Gallery after a full first day on theHop On/Hop Off tour the previous day that didn't allow enough time for the GPI internal shuttle and a tour of the gallery. Well worth the the visit. The arts and crafts collection is the best I have seen in AVL - the fine pieces are exquisite and unique. I've visited many collections but didn't see things here that I had seen all over AVL. Granted, not all pieces are AVL artists but the Craftsman style is prevalent and well-executed. The staff is warm, friendly, helpful and very approachable, unlike other galleries. We'll go back again and again. I will bring visitors and guests here when they are in town, not only for the gallery contents but also for the outside sculptures and the vistas. Great experience and unique items. BTW, free admission, has adjacent free parking, and no traffic! In a serene setting.
MoreThis gallery and garden space is lovely and absolutely worth a visit. The gallery has tons of local and regional artists, with a super wide range of price points, and different mediums. The gardens have large outdoor artwork, a couple short paths, a pond and bench.
MoreKnowing how much we love this area and given that we were leaving town the next morning, we arrived much too late in the day. The museums weren’t open, and the Grovewood Gallery was about to close. Our fault! Even so, the Gallery continues to feature an amazing array of beautiful handcrafted things.
