I brought my Diamondback Trace in for a tube change and front wheel adjustment. Figured I would come back and pick it up in a day or two but they had it ready in about 15 Minutes!

I purchased a used GT Performer bmx bicycle, for my son, from a third party. It needed some work done on it, so I took it to Mike Bikes to be serviced. I had them repack all the bearings, true the rims, replace the tubes and tires, adjust the brakes and remove the 4 GT Pegs from the front and rear axles. When I picked it up, they handed me a box with 4 pegs it. I was happy to get bike pack and didn’t pay much attention to the box of parts. Fast forward a year or so later... My son asked if we could put the pegs back on the bike. I went and got pegs and discovered they did not fit the 1/2” axles. What Mike’s Bikes had done, was steal our GT pegs, which are worth, at least $50-$170 a pair per eBay, and swapped them out with some cheap pegs that did not fit the axles. First off, the original pegs had the GT logo embossed on them, these did not. Plus, the axle diameter on GT Performers are larger than most bmx bikes. They have 1/2” diameter axles or the metric equivalent, while a typical bmx bicycle has 3/8” diameter axles. At this point, it was to late do anything about it. However, hopefully this review will help someone else from being ripped off. Pretty sad when you have to steal from a kid.

Took a wheel into Mike's on Folly Rd to have a tubeless tire put on. Three previous tires had worked well on the same wheel. Initially mechanic said tire would not work tubeless but he looked it up online and found he was wrong. He then insisted that the rim tape would not work for tubeless even though it had done so for 3 previous tires. I gave in and said to replace the rim tape. after 20' of struggle and putting half a bottle of orange tire sealant in the wheel the tire finally seated. Now the valve was leaking air and sealant which it never had before. As it was near the end of the day I was told that they were closing and couldn't do anything more for me. I was advised to go buy an o-ring to put over the valve to slow down the leak. I ended up paying $30 for all of this. Now my wheel, which had worked fine for literally thousands of miles, leaks like a sieve from the valve and the spoke nipples.

We spent the weekend at Folly Beach this week and needed to rent a few bikes. Mike's Bikes fit the bill. They were very accommodating and set us up with 3 bikes and a child carrier. The equipment was in excellent condition and the price was very good. They even made sure the kids got a full 24 hours to ride. If your at Folly Beach and need bikes, Mike's is the place to go.
