The Warehouse Theater always does a great job on dramatic plays and the Crucible was another example. We always love going there for plays and recommend you check it out. They take on some challenging stuff, but also mix in the funny and wacky at times.

I saw that “In the Heights” was playing here, but it was sold out the only night I could go. It was a production from the creator of Hamilton, and Lin-Manuel Miranda’s first musical. It was the winner of the 2008 Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Score, Best Choreography and Best Orchestrations, and a nominee for the Pulitzer Prize. I really wanted to see it! I called and spoke to a young man who kindly informed me that it was sold out but that I could try and come early on the unlikely chance that there were a couple of no-shows. As luck would have it, we got two tickets! We sat in the fourth row of a very simple and tiny theater and proceeded to watch an amazing show. It had fun hip hop & Latin music, talented dancers and powerful singers. It was a very emotional show that left the audience crying but loving it all. I am so grateful that I was able to see this show. I hope one day if you have the chance to get tickets you take it! Highly recommend!

This musical has been around for a while and got a nice review from Ben Brantlee in the NY Times in 2010. (you could look it up). So here we are in G'ville, in 2018. The play is still a political satire - a lot of jabs at what could be called an imperial presidency. NOt written about Trump, sure does apply. The music is emo - according to Brantlee; it works for him. For me, the music / lyrics both are un-clever, un-sophisticated, dull. Written by somebody in a hurry to get a song done. The dialog in between the musical pieces is so full of f-bombs and sh*ts and similar words that I think it was written by boring people whose vocabularies are quite small. The whole thing didn't work for me....I don't want to go to a musical with bad music/lyrics and a super-lot of 4-letter words. It's distracting! So my recommendation is see the thing if frequent and meaningless F-bombs don't bother you, if you have a sense of humor that will laugh because you're supposed to - at things that have no wit or real funniness to them. Hint: not that many people in the audience were laughing. Stay home if you thought My Fair Lady was delightful, if you take delight in lyrics like ...the pavement always stayed beneath my feet before. The American culture is changing, not for the better, this is an example.

We just saw Bloody, Bloody, Andrew Jackson and like most other performances here it was excellent. The Warehouse Theater is one of the many reasons Greenville, SC has become a city of the arts. The location is easy to get to, most of the time parking is not a problem, it's close to many of the better restaurants in the area, and the theater its self-doesn't have a bad seat in the house. Don't miss out on the wonderful venue the Warehouse has to offer.

We saw Much Ado about Nothing last week. Very well acted but setting it in 1930's/40's Hollywood really didn't work for us. It added nothing to the play and was somewhat distracting. All seats are excellent. Free parking behind the theatre is always full so you have to pay $5 at the lot across the street.
