The tourist advertising does not make it clear that this place charges admission. We arrived 30 minutes before closing at 4 pm. The hours in their listing say they close at 5 pm. We were hurriedly added to a tour that had already started Despite paying full price, our tour was so fast, only 15 minutes. There was much we didn't even get a glimpse of. At least 10 times the guide reminded the group to hurry because we are closing at 4 pm Of course they left 10 minutes for the gift shop. This could have been a fascinating museum, but the only priority was closing. Very disappointing, we felt no consideration for us as paying guests.

What a amazing talent this man has for carving. The detail is unbelievable. The amount of time and craftsmanship that goes into these ships are truly an art. This is a must stop.

What amazing displays of pure craftsmanship! We heard about David Warther’s ship carvings while touring Ernest Warther’s train carvings museum nearby, but nothing could prepare us for the beauty and detail of David’s ships. This is a guided tour that lasts about an hour, but plan to spend extra time with the displays after the tour ends. An added bonus was having David come out of his workshop to spend a few minutes chatting with us, answering our questions and giving us more details about his techniques and craft. Time well spent - we’re looking forward to stopping in again to spend more time admiring these fantastic ships!

While we were spending a few days in Berlin, Ohio, I wanted to make sure I stopped by this carving museum. I was not disappointed! The carvings of ships, all historically and spec accurate, were all made of antique ivory. I was so impressed with the minute detail of these carvings, which also illustrated the status of ship building and use at their respecting time in history. This is a must-see if you appreciate works of art that are intricate, beautiful, and accurate in detail. As part of the visit we met David Warther, who was very open to questions and provided great detail about how the intricate carving and scrimshaw work was done. Very nice.
