This is quite an institution, an amphitheater built into the hills above campus. Some big shows are held here and it can be heavenly on a summer night, as long as it is not too cold and foggy. Parking is very tight and complicated and after the show there can be traffic jams. If you can take a bus, you will be better off.

We visited the Greek Theatre to see a Lord Huron concert. We arrived a little after the gates were open and were able to get good seats. There were plenty of open spots doing the opener but it filled in quickly once the main act came out. I looked at Reddit threads online and most people mentioned bringing some type of cushion to sit on which was great advice. We also brought blankets to keep warm. The Greek Theatre has guidelines about how big the blankets can be but security was moved everyone through pretty quickly. We visited the concession stands before the show and it moved fast. The theatre emptied out pretty quickly after the show. We stayed at the Graduate Hotel which I would highly recommend as we didn’t have to worry about parking at the venue or traffic afterwards. We had a great time at the show and would definitely return.

Officially The Hearst Greek Theater this venue built on University of California Berkeley's campus in 1903 remains an iconic space thanks to stellar acoustics, easy parking and the sort of crowd one might expect in an affluent liberal area.Hosting two shows by Vampire Weekend the weekend of 6/15/24 and 6/16/24 both the lawn and floor were packed as the band ran through 36 songs including a karaoke-by-request encore in just over two hours.

The venue is okay, but the vendors are terrible. A can of warm water(because they can’t keep it on ice?) was $6. The pretzels and churros were hard, dry and tasteless. Probably microwaved and then displayed. They were expensive and inedible.

It's a good place for a show, but make sure you bring a cushion for the stone seats. But it is also an historic site on the campus, up the hill. And if you climb up to the top you get a great view of the Bay.
