We love to stay at the Inn at McDonoughs. It is in an excellent location and the free breakfast is cooked to order! Don't let staying above a pub dissuade you. The rooms are very cozy and peaceful. They even have sound machines in the room if you need it. The entry is private. It is located right beside the Savannah Theater and Walking Ghost Tours leave from this site, too. It takes about 15 minutes to walk to River St. or City Market. It is off of Chippewa Square which is gorgeous! And one block from Bull St. The price is very good for Savannah and the rooms are top class. We have been 3 times and would go again and again.

I stayed for two nights. I deliberately chose this hotel so that I was immersed in the city and with locals. I was in the penthouse suite on the 3rd floor. Even above a noisy, busy bar, the room was quiet, except for the street noise, which is to be expected, but even that wasn't bad. It was a nice room with a cool brick wall. I asked to check-in early and was told it was okay, but when I arrived my room wasn't ready. I left for a few hours and came back, but it still wasn't ready. They offered me lunch (I recommend the fried green tomato BLT and sweet potato fries) and drinks, and the manager cleaned the room himself and did everything he could to fix the situation. That's the thing, it was fixable, and he did just that. This is a local, family owned, friendly establishment. The bartenders were very friendly and helpful. The manager, Joseph was a fun, friendly, helpful guy. Billy, the owner was very grateful for my business and also friendly. They were all apologetic about the room not being done. After they fixed the situation, everything else was great. Breakfast every morning at the bar while talking with the locals was just what I was looking for. Every person I met who came into the bar was fun and friendly. There is a nice market across the street, a nail salon half a block up, a square a block away and many easily accessible sights. The River was just a short walk, there was a theater on the corner, and St. Joseph's a few blocks away. This place is in a great location. I would say that an update to the hallway leading to the room should be done. If you can get past the dirty hallway carpet and old smell in the hallway leading out of the elevator, and the older carpet in the room, the rest of the room is very nicely decorated and the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was spacious and had a nice shower with a waterfall showerhead. I slept well, enjoyed the food, the sights and the company. It wasn't glamorous, it was homey and local feeling, just what I was looking for.

The staff was friendly and tried their best to make our stay as nice as possible unfortunately we found mold throughout the room which lets me know that the room was not cleaned before our arrival. There was a peculiar smell when we entered the room which should have been our first sign. Once they were informed they tried their best to make amends by offering us a gift certificate for $40. We had another place in mind for dinner so we did not use it. We actually would have tried to get another place but it was late and our options were limited. After our discussing our concerns regarding the mold issue the owner refunded our money. With a little tender loving care this could be a great place to stay. The location is perfect. It is close to everything.

I will preface this review with: Everyone was really nice and accommodating. The pub was a cool place to hang--definitely convenient for late night drinking, simply up the stairs where you could pass out without having to wait on an Uber driver to pick you up. A short walk to any of the really hip places to hang out. The room was cozy. Breakfast included was definitely a plus--just told the bartenders we were staying upstairs, and they handed over the breakfast menu. Pancakes! No silly continental breakfast here! BUT When we arrived, I was surprised that my husband and I were the only customers to book any of the 4 rooms available for the weekend--Savannah usually boasts a large number of tourists. In fact, Janice said we could choose any room we wanted. Nice! But with the top floor already in mind (since we're above a bar, duh), I asked if she could just take us on up. She took us the shortcut which was us being ushered through a small closet door leading through the kitchen, squeezing through some tight spaces to get to the hallway to where our room was in the far corner (hmmm.) Then, she informed us the ONLY entrance to this floor from the outside would be via elevator--which is typically reserved for Billy's Place patrons. Since there are about 2 doors that stay locked at odd times, we had much difficulty accessing that elevator at different times. Thankfully the bar downstairs is open super late, because I don't think we would have been able to get back to our room. The bars close at 3am (and being our first night in Savannah, we took advantage...) We had to beat on the door of the pub to get them to open the doors for us to access the elevator (the only access to our room, remember?). They were really nice about it, BUT it was just super inconvenient for us and them. Umm, excuse me can you come unlock this door so we can get to our room? I highly suggest they offer a separate key to individuals staying at the Inn. Street parking - Was told exactly where to park; still ended up with a $25 ticket since I was in the way of the street cleaner - a heads-up on this would have been nice. OH, and there was NO SHOWER DOOR or SHOWER CURTAIN. Not even a rod to indicate there ever was one. Still trying to figure that one out...

I found this 'affordable' location at the last minute. I knew that it may be questionable given it is above a bar/restaurant. I like the location, however, there is no designated parking - you have to fight with the 1000's of other visitors in Savannah. This is a perfect location for a person(s) that like to party to 3 am or a very heavy sleeper (I am neither). The shower was great (Anita room), but poorly designed door, as there was a small creek in the rest of the bathroom. The mattress is squeaky. Also, there is another bar/restaurant on the same floor as the rooms - also partied till around 3 am on Saturday night. The staff was friendly and helpful. I learned my lesson!
