Oldest Wooden School House Museum

The Old School House is a national treasure said to be the oldest surviving wooden schoolhouse in North America. Built more than 200 years ago, it made its debut as a schoolhouse until 1788, when Spanish rule ended. Sturdy construction has enabled it to withstand the ravages of time, it's held together with wooden pegs and handmade nails! Animatronic robots are dressed in period costumes, designed to depict schoolmaster and students on a typical 18th Century day.

I visited the Oldest Wooden Schoolhouse with my wife in March 2026. A small but interesting stop on St. George Street. It's fun to see how school was in the old days.

I walked by this the first day I was in St. Augustine thinking I would save the money as it didn’t look like much. That night, I thought more about it and being a retired teacher, I just had to check it out. So the next day we visited and I am so glad we did. I have seen a number of old school houses in my travels. Most have been building that were moved from one location to another and reconstructed. Not this one! It is original and in the same location it has always been. Very unique and worth every penny, so glad we changed our mind and decided to visit. I would add it to your list to see in St Augustine! You don’t see original places like this very often! We spent about half an hour or less here and the cost was $8.

Very interesting. Well preserved. Even the outhouse was saved. And you collect a souvenir diploma after amattending the school. Very cute.

Neat place to visit. Not much to see but it’s Al about the history. We found it worth it spending a few minutes exploring the school house. See the entrance fee as a donation to maintain the premises.Once inside, press the button and the teacher along with one of the students tells you about the school day.

My daughter is a teach so of course we were going to stop here! It was overpriced for what it was, but still worth a stop. As an adult I could have done without the animatronics. The list of teacher rules was a good laugh.
