We were on our way back from St. Augustine from a long weekend. We always travel the interstate or Turnpike and have shunned two-lane roads for safety concerns having come from an urban background. This time, we shunned the interstate and took the backroads to St. Augustine which turned out to be a delightful and relaxing trip. Some of the best discoveries can be found off the beaten path. The Barberville Yard Art Emporium on West State Road 40 in Pierson, FL, is one of those unique finds. En route, we stopped to gas up in Pierson across the road from the eye-catching emporium and decided to stop on our way back. This is a place to spend at least an hour to browse. Hundreds of unique items are displayed from the very small to statement pieces like a kangaroo, a cow or a bull. From promotional materials: Two acres full of whimsical pieces: from recycled cast aluminum statuary (life-size animals, lamp posts, fountains, patio furniture, mailboxes) to windmills, planters and rustic teak wood furniture. You'll also find hundreds of thousands of hand-made, one-of-a-kind Mexican talavera pottery... a new term to us. Talavera pottery is of Mexican origin, characterized by bold colors (especially blue and white) and creative designs. This pottery appeared in Mexico in the 16th Century after the arrival of Spanish potters from the Talavera region. Pottery workshops began to create all types of pieces. The pottery was used everywhere in the house from walls to kitchens and considered works of art. A video about talavera pottery and its unique patterns runs in a continuous loop t the emporium. We settled on a small yard art piece to remember our trip by. Since the popular book, Remarkably Bright Creatures is on my TBR list, I thought an octopus was a perfect choice and it has its own place in our small yard. The employees are very friendly and offered to keep our purchase at the register while we continued to browse. We were lucky to find a spot in the angle-parking area in front of the emporium, but parking is at a premium and getting back onto SR 40 requires vigilance. Waiting for the stop light at the intersection will ensure a safe exit. Two takeaways: two-lane travel is scenic and safe and Barberville Yard Art Emporium in Pierson, FL is worth a stop! They are open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and have a strong social media presence.

TONS of unique items. Lawn art, wall art, garden art, and so forth. Some are large enough you need a trailer, some are very small. Displays are much cleaner and brighter than years back. Prices are reasonable. We bought 2 gnomes.
