tripadvisorThis is a beautiful old theater. We took our grandson to see Pete the Cat. The staff was helpful and friendly. Seating is comfortable and good sight lines on the main floor.
MoreMe and my husband came out to see the stage play (When a woman’s fed up). I rated it two stars because although the people there were nice, it’s an old building so the seating is not great. Very little leg room (so if you’re tall which my husband is,it’s horrible). Plus the play itself claimed to have a singer i really want to see (Lenny Williams) and one of the reasons we chose to travel out of town for it and pay the ticket price, and he was not there.
MoreI love the old theaters... and this one is a true treasure. Opened in 1927 and added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1982, it was beautifully restored in 2023 and looks fantastic. The acoustics in these classic venues are always special... there’s nothing quite like them. When I noticed that Itzhak Perlman going to perform here, I had to make the trip to Jacksonville. This wasn’t just a concert... it was a reflection on a remarkable 80-year life. Widely considered one of the greatest violinists of all time (and I completely agree), it was incredible to see him so close in such an intimate setting. I saw him at Carnegie Hall twice before, years ago. At 80, he’s still playing with breathtaking purity and control... the sound as beautiful as ever.Almost everyone working at the theater is a volunteer, which makes the experience even more special. I went up to the top level to give a view from up there. I'd say the 200 level is very good, 300 a bit far away. Highly recommend this venue... a truly special place to experience live performance.
MoreBeautiful theater. Easy to find. Lots of bars inside. Easy to find seats. Lots of attendants . Beware of parking lot across the street $22 to park
MoreWent to see John Cleese and had a great time! Mr. Cleese is still in very fine form and I haven't laughed so hard in recent times. He was not only funny, but very gracious in answering questions from the audience. Highly recommend. The Florida Theater was a perfect venue for this show, ornate, but cozy. The sound system was very good and the staff very nice. It was the most enjoyable evening I've had in a while. The Hyatt Regency is all of two blocks away and was both nice and extremely convenient.
