tripadvisorPump boys and dinettes. Fun, family friendly and excellent show. So well acted and well sung. Actors and musicians were top notch.
MoreWe loved seeing a play at the Hippodrome while visiting Gainesville. We had dinner downtown before the play and then enjoyed the entertainment. We'll definitely book another play the next time we're in town.
MoreThe Hippodrome State Theatre is a great example of how to benefit your community. Located near the University of Florida, this gives theatre students the opportunity to work and learn alongside other professionals in quality productions. In addition to live theatre, they also have a smaller cinema for community events as well as an art gallery to showcase the work of local artists. I had a blast at their production of POTUS (their thrust stage and innovative set remains one of my favorite stagings) and had the opportunity to speak with a few actors who arrived for auditions while I was in town who all had great things to say about their experiences working with the Hippodrome!
MoreWe saw Hamilton at the Hippodrome last night. The theater is impressive. We had seats in Grand Suite Center - very pricey, yes, but a perfect view of the stage. The seats were comfortable too. I understand from other comments that not all seats in the theater have a good view or are comfortable which caused me to go with Grand Suite tickets. I would say that the rush for the elevator after the show is problematic - we managed to beat the crowd due to our location at the end of the row and on the same floor as the passageway to the parking garage. My big negative: I could not understand a lot of the dialog/song lyrics. However, I think that was due to the enunciation of the actors. The actors playing Aaron Burr, George Washington and King George were understandable all of the time. Some of the others - especially the actor playing Hamilton - were unfortunately hard for me to understand. In hindsight, I should have looked up the storyline ahead of time.
More2/04/2022 “Worst ever performance” “As You Like It” performance on Friday, 2/04/2022 was the first time we walked out of a Hippodrome performance at Intermission because of the poor (and disappointing) quality of the live stage play.
