tripadvisorMy daughter and I spent several hours here--and enjoyed ourselves so much we went back the next day. The space is filled (but not stuffed) with fascinating, beautifully crafted, and history-filled objects, from lovely wood furniture to heavy fireplace andirons to pinball-machine mechanisms, and far beyond. She bought a striking Art Deco lamp and a few unique curios. The owner was very welcoming and informative, and his assistant (Tyler?) was a pleasure to interact with--what a genuine, lovely person (and funny!). Old Portland Hardware will be on our must-go list whenever I visit her. Just delightful.
MoreWe stopped in on a whim while visiting Portland. As owners of an old house we are thrilled to find such a resource, we just wish we lived closer! The lady working assured us that they could find almost anything and gave us their card to email photos of hardware we might need to replace. Such great service even though we were basically looky-loos gawking over all the cool stuff. When we get home and assess our hardware needs this will certainly be on our list of places to contact.
MoreThis store was the best in Portland the last time we visited. Last week we went to the store, no store. Building was still there, but the business had moved. Long ways away. New place is much smaller--probably the reason for the move--and just a beautiful. Not nearly as much salvage in the raw and almost all the stock in the store had been worked on, cleaned and refinished. Really great stuff but the prices were steep. Just not the same or as good if you are looking for a find or something to work on.
MoreFirst, the staff is super friendly and very knowledgeable. The inventory is in readable. Just about anything that can be reclaimed from an old building is there. Hundreds of doorknobs and related hardware. Industrial/commercial light fixtures. Parts from old elevators. The list goes on and on. Everything in the store is painstakingly restored and pretty much ready for your project.
