tripadvisorWe walked 1.7 miles on well-maintained path. We saw lots of birds in trees and shrubs. We saw ducks (Mallards, Wood ducks, Gribes, and Great Blue Heron). In the shrubs and trees, we saw many birds like Ruby-crowned Kinglet, House finch, Titmouse, and Hummingbirds. Very well-maintained walkway across lagoon water.
MoreThis is a nicely laid out wildlife refuge with boardwalks and floating bridges. Earlier reviews mentioned the homeless problem. We did encounter one homeless person sleeping there but away from the trail and not a big distraction. Entrance is on California Street at the corner of Bay Street, but the parking lot is small, with spaces for about 6 cars. Soon as you enter there is the Pollinator Garden. We visited in September with not much flowers in bloom but we still saw a hummingbird there. The park was next to the Santa Cruz Wastewater Treatment Facility. So every now and then you get whiff of the unpleasant smell. Some parts of the trail opens up to the marshes but some are obscured by tall grass (California Bulrus?). Part of the trail is right next to an apartment complex. In other words, some areas are quite nice, others not so much. We didn't see that many varieties of wildlife, just mostly ducks.
MoreWe visited in the morning for a walk before leaving Santa Cruz. Had a little trouble finding the entrance. Nice level walking loop on ground and boardwalk. Peaceful and quiet. A good place to bird watch.
MoreWe enjoyed this peaceful area. You can’t drive into it. Enter near the senior apartments named Arbor Cove. Dogs are not allowed. There are lots of birds, butterflies and some ducks. The walkway has some parts that sway while over the water. Be careful to go during the day. There have been more and more homeless in the area.
MoreThis was a very peaceful walk. Kinda hard to find. You can’t drive into it. We entered near the senior apartments named Arbor Cove. We got there about 10:30 and left a little after 11.
