I was on a road trip and arrived into Albuquerque around 9pm. Stopped here for food because there was nothing else open. The food was great and I was so pleasantly surprised to see vegan options on the menu. Kind of a fun alt kind of atmosphere. Clean, polite bartender, lots to look at, and honestly an interesting microcosm of Albuquerquean culture. There's nothing more I could have asked for from a bar.

My experience here was the final reason as to why I will never visit Albuquerque again, and discourage others from doing so as well. Firstly, we entered Sister with a diverse group of 7. My gay partner and I left to get a burrito; the first bouncer said we could bring outside food in. Upon our return, I was denied entry by a second bouncer. He said that I was stumbling and was too drunk. I was not stumbling. I had consumed only one old fashioned at Bar Uno, one hour earlier. Now our group was split up. My partner and I (Asian and LatinX) waited outside for our friends to finish their drinks. While we stood outside, a fight broke up across the street. I walked over to the first bouncer and told him about it. He said that they do not call nor trust the police because they shoot innocent people. Oddly enough, once the fight got worse moments later, this same bouncer then ran into the street and waved at the police. Perplexed by the irony of a Caucasian man signaling for the police, plus being denied entry, we left. Sister feels unwelcoming to many people (see other one star comments) and unwelcoming to queer people and people of color. Because of a slew of other racist experiences in New Mexico and at “Sister,” I wont be coming back to Albuquerque.

It’s a strange place to be sure, hard to figure out what they are going for with the atmosphere and vibe. The good news... Taco Tuesday! Tacos are $2 and Tecate bottled beer is also $2. The tacos were not super complex but they had some great flavor. The place was busy, service was slow.

Don’t waste your time. Poor service. Bad drinks. Weird staff. Nothing positive to say except it was easy to find a seat. Now I know why. Won’t be returning anytime soon.
