Steeped in history, from the Tequesta Indians to the pioneers of the 1890s and industrialist Charles Deering himself, this area of Cutler, has long attracted people to its unique natural setting. Nestled off Biscayne Bay, the Charles Deering Estate today encompasses a rich tapestry of rare plants, tropical hammocks, and endangered coastal scrub forests. Immerse yourself in the estate's past by touring the historic Stone House, designed by Phineas Paist and others, and the charming 19th-century Richmond Cottage. Explore the Cutler Burial Mound, a silent testament to the area's early inhabitants. The ticket office offers interesting souvenirs to commemorate your visit.

tripadvisorI finally paid a visit to the Deering State. It’s a perfect activity to get disconnected from the busy city. Tickets are priced at $15 for adults but thanks to the Miami Dade Library Museum Pass, I was able to visit it for free. I enjoyed walking through the gardens, the Atlantic Ocean views and the architecture of the main building. All in all, a great activity for the whole family.
MoreWait until next year to go. They are renovating the main house so you can't go in, only the cottage. The views of the Bay are lovely and the tour through the mangroves (walking) are nice but I was disappointed to pay full price and not see the main house.
MoreReally enjoyed my visit here! You walk straight down a path to two buildings, The Richmond House and the Stone House, you can go inside and explore all the rooms which have period displays. The grounds were lovely. I saw many manatees in the water! I loved the peaceful Mangrove Walk also. I came on public transportation from the city to Dadeland South, then an Uber to the Deering Estate. It was a great respite from the busy city.
MoreWow... beautiful place and gardens. We enjoyed having our own picnic lunch on the grounds and visiting the home and pump house. This is truly one of the hidden gems and very quiet. The only disappointment we had is that the visitors center is pretty much closed and more of a classroom building with washrooms. Just go directly to the gate entrance to pay your admission.
MoreDeering Estate is a beautiful property which is well worth the visit. We enjoyed the history of the place and both the Richmond Cottage and the Stone House are nicely preserved. We were lucky to have a guided tour by the knowledgeable Tori. We later explored the grounds - the carriage house, the pump and electricity building, the mangrove boardwalk, the art installations, but the biggest wow is the view of the key lock shaped dock or boat turning basin flanked by majestic palms.A very peaceful setting and we stayed from the opening to closing time and I enjoyed every minute of it. I was wise to bring along some sandwiches which we enjoyed on sturdy benches bordering the dock while watching a pod of manatees, two big snook fishes, and birds with large outstretched wings soaring the skies. We were lucky to also see a few pelicans at the end of the mangrove boardwalk making huge splashes as they dive for fishes. Worth the visit.
