Located on the banks of the Rio Grande river, Anzalduas State Park is a wonderful recreational spot for the young and the old. On weekends and vacation time, this park is filled with little kids playing around on the swings, slides and climbing frames. Anzalduas State Park also offers a favorable habitat for various species of birds, making it an ideal location for birding. Birdwatchers can keep an eye out for rare species that flock to this place at times.

tripadvisorHalf of the park converted to Covid quarantine area. Law enforcement person that patrolled this area (Hidalgo County Constable) used abusive, insulting, racially-tainted language towards me. He threatened me with arrest and citations. I was at the park during park hours, but received confusing directions about entrance procedures. ( I received conflicting instructions from park personnel, security staff assigned to the Covid area, and the National Guard). The constable would not listen to my explanation, kept yelling at me, and stepped out of his vehicle to get into my face. At that point I thought he would arrest me. He expressed his extreme dislike about birdwatchers (I am a birdwatcher). Birdwatchers avoid this area. There are other places to bird patrolled by professional law enforcement.
MoreThis park is nuzzled right up to the Rio Grande River. It is a large park. Plenty of picnic tables and grills to be had. We have also read and seen videos this a great biring destination. Our trip did not generate any birding views exceot for some American Coots. There is supposed to be parakeets observed there during the evening hours. The park has been turned into a holding ground for illegal imigrants. There is a temporary fence running through middle of it with some large tents that are purported to house the imigrants. Security is observable as is border patrols presence. For us we are glad we visited the park but found no true use for us. We observed a news crew, guard and a birder on our late morning visit. Large space of property being underutilized. It is understandable why Imigration would take over a good piece of the property.
MoreA family I know mentioned that one of their family members drowned at the body of water in this park. I was wondering if there's any way that the family can memorialize the deceased person? For example in my state, there are many parks and forests where people are memorialized with a stone bearing the person's name, dob, and DOD. Please let me know if anything is possible.
MoreGreat trip close by too great to relax and take a break from the norm all that was missing was Bill and Ted or else it would of been a great adventure
MoreI'm a birder and went to this park due to reports of some really great birds. However, it was the weekend and it was packed to the gills with really loud families having picnics and barbecuing. Fun for them, but I think it scared some of the birds. My next visit will be on a weekday.
