A 1920s construction, this historic two-story, 35.4-acre (14.32-hectare) waterfront house was once the winter home of artist Frederic Clay Bartlett and his wife, Evelyn. The Bonnet House is serenely elegant and preserved amidst the urban expansion of Fort Lauderdale Beach, making the land all the more special. Mrs. Bartlett, who died in 1997, gave the estate to the Florida Trust for Historic Preservation in 1983 to keep the property unchanged. Several concerts and events are held here throughout the year, and the house is available for private events such as weddings. Named after a waterlily, that once inhabited the property, the Bonnet House is open year-round for guided tours.

tripadvisorIt was an interesting visit, the art was beautiful, and the grounds were spectacular. It was hard to believe that all of the hustle and bustle of Fort Lauderdale Beach was just on the other side of the fence.Sadly, the second floor was closed off to us, but they didn’t discount our ticket nor invite us back to see it when it reopened. If you can get a deal on the tickets, you’ll be much happier with your expenditure.
MoreAbsolutely loved our visit here! They provided my son with a scavenger hunt for a prize so he stayed engaged throughout our visit. Everywhere you turned there was someone helping or there to answer questions. It was quite lovely! In addition to enjoying how beautiful the house was - I very much am in love with their orchid house!
Morenice place to walk around and take some photos
MoreRecently visited Bonnet House with a blind friend. They offer a touch tour for the visually impaired. Before our trip I reached out to the tour manager David. He was very accommodating and responsive. We were offered a private guided tour led by Debbie who was an absolute delight. David and Sonia assisted throughout. The entire team was caring, knowledgeable and friendly. My friend was able to touch certain items wearing gloves. It made the tour more immersive and special. The property is absolutely stunning and a must visit in Fort Lauderdale.Blind people are often overlooked. I appreciate Bonnet House for providing the touch option. It was an amazing experience from start to finish.
MoreAs a museum professional, I hold the unpopular belief that most historic home museums are actually kind of boring. Not so with the Bonnet House Museum--it's so much more than a historic home. Yes, the history of the family and the area is shared (and is interesting!) but the home itself is a whimsical and delightful piece of art, filled with whimsical and delightful art both from around the world and state (representing various cultures) but also from the former owners. The grounds are one more amazing part of the experience filled with native plants and creatures. I highly recommend having the guided tour of the museum as well as the guided golf-cart ride around the grounds.
