The Nook Bar & Pub ·$$

Casper & Runyon's Nook is something of a local institution, the restaurant has a long tradition of serving up delicious burgers to hungry patrons for over seven decades. Bought by the two restaurateurs, the Nook still serves the original burgers for which it became so popular. The restaurant is small, but has a casual, relaxed vibe and is a great place to stop by for a bite and drink with friends. Wash down your burger with a cold beer from their selection. The restaurant stocks both bottled and on-tap varieties. Popular favorites include Mickey's Original Hamburger, Bacon Cheeseburger, Juicy Nook Burger and a side of home-made fries. The Nook has a great reputation for terrific burgers. They must have had a unusual off day yesterday.. The special was their burger, bacon BBQ sauce (3 B Burger).. The requested medium burger was over cooked and dry (cooked well done) , very little BBQ sauce and the bacon was inconsistently cooked (part burnt & part undercooked). The bun would have benefited by having it toasted a little, as the bun was too soft and unable to hold the burger. The fries served with burger was cold and not crispy as advertised. HOWEVER, the service was excellent. The atmosphere of the Nook was terrific. We will try again as this might have been an off-day for the usually high rated establishment.

We did a two night mini getaway in St Paul (we live about 11/2 hours west). I had read about this place called The Nook and the writer stated it has THE BEST cheese curds so we decided to find it! We walked in and I asked if we just seated ourselves and the bartended said we are full. I said “oh no” to which he asked “how many”. I said 2 and he motioned for us to go up the steps & follow him. He seated us in a booth that was unseen from the rest of the tables! It was definitely a “nook”! We had our very own serving window! Alex is the best bartender & server! Highly recommend you find The Nook! We had the curds and they were delicious!!!! As was our Bourbon Bacon Burger! The beer choices were great & the beer was cold! When we were done Alex said we had to go downstairs and let him know what we think! A bowling alley, a pinball machine, a full bar and dollar bills all over! All a part of your experience at “The Nook” in St Paul!

The joint is known for some of the best burgers in town but they must have had a rookie in the kitchen the night we stopped in. Ordered a Juicy Lucy. My first bite discovered the cheese to be cold and I realized the burger was closer to raw than cooked rare. To the embarrassed manager’s credit, new burgers were made and he gave us our meal at no charge which was terrific and prevents a worse rating here.

Decide to try and find a not typical lunch stop and this was a hit. This is such a cool place and the food is simply amazing. It turns out this was a DDD location and did not know this when I chose it. If you are anywhere near this place make the time to visit.

When we are traveling we try to eat at one of the local ‘diners, drive thru and dives.’ This was the one we chose. Apparently there are a lot of them to choose from in the twin cities. It was very crowded and the staff was hustling. We were seated quickly and served quickly as well. The ambiance is fun and definitely sets the ‘dive’ vibes for us.We all ordered various versions of the juicy Lucy. The meal was scrumptious. Happy with this experience. Very good service as well. Check it out!
