Burritt On The Mountain is a picturesque open-air museum featuring one of the oldest houses in the area. The Burritt Mansion belonged to a physician named William Burritt. It is an eclectic piece of art with unconventional and bizarre design elements. The initial structure used straw as an insulator which became the cause of it being burnt down later. It was reconstructed in the following years. Today, the museum showcases several 19th-century houses as well as holds events and workshops.

tripadvisorI enjoyed the beautiful wood and antiques inches main house. The schoolbuilding and other smaller homes on display were interesting. I enjoyed hearing the history of the place.
MoreSpent about 1 hour 15 to 20 minutes in late April. History park - can go in each building (but no reenactors there). Some animals (horse, pig goat). Mansion house - can walk around on 1st floor. Can see car in garage. Did the Trail to cross and travel for awhile when down the hill. Overall, some interesting history building and some walking.
MoreGet coupons online or from Visitor Center. Great for families and kids too. The Burritt home lacks a lot of furnishings but interesting. Mr Russ was knowledgeable. The best was the old wooden homes and buildings from 1800's. Louise the cat was an excellent tour guide. The valley was a sight and you can see the rocket .
MoreI wouldn't waste your money. The house doesn't have much furniture in it, and what is there, most isn't even original to the home. The upstairs was completely off limits so there is really not much to see. I'm sure it was amazing at some point, but not only is the house not that big, but I think it falls into the tourist trap category. My parents thought the same.
MoreThe view of Huntsville and the rockets from the mountain was amazing, but we also enjoyed interacting with the costumed (and not costumed) staff, touring all the log homes and mansion, and seeing the farm animals. The gift shop provided an included scavenger hunt and craft for our kindergartner. We went on a Tuesday morning, and we were about the only guests until lunchtime. Highly recommended for families with young kids (and older ones too) and history buffs!
