The Church Mouse is a bit of a misnomer for a place like this. To put it differently, it's the trendiest thrift store one would come across. Managed by the Episcopal Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea, the inventory includes slightly used articles of clothing, furniture, rugs, purses, bedding and the like. Given that it's Palm Beach a lot of the articles are a la mode, and at affordable prices. If you still think you're over indulging, it'll easy your conscience to know that the proceeds go towards charity.

tripadvisorWe had a very disappointing experience at The Church Mouse in Palm Beach. I expected a higher standard of customer service and overall atmosphere given the reputation and location, but that was not what my husband and I encountered. From the moment we arrived, the store felt poorly maintained. We noticed dusty surfaces, unclean windows, and an overall lack of attention to cleanliness that was surprising for a store in Palm Beach. Beyond the physical condition, the customer service was the most upsetting part of the visit. The store manager (blonde woman) and the other female staff members came across as dismissive and unprofessional in their interactions. When my husband attempted to ask for assistance, he was met with a rude and unhelpful response that felt unnecessarily hostile. Several of the volunteers also seemed judgmental and unwelcoming, which made the experience uncomfortable rather than enjoyable. What was also unclear at the time of my visit is that proceeds support Bethesda-by-the-Sea. This is important information that should be clearly communicated to visitors, as it adds context and meaning to the shopping experience…..Overall, we left feeling disappointed and unwelcome, and we would not choose to return. I hope management and the church leadership take this feedback seriously and reflect on the current standards of customer service, staff conduct, and overall environment. A place tied to a respected institution should hold itself to a higher level of professionalism and hospitality, and meaningful changes in training, oversight, and staffing approach may be necessary to ensure visitors are treated with respect and care moving forward!
MoreI visited Church Mouse today hoping to have the wonderful experience so many others describe, but unfortunately I experienced the complete opposite. The issue began in the parking lot. Other vehicles were parked along the side of the building, not in legitimate parking spots, so I did the same. When a vehicle in an actual parking spot needed to leave, a very kind employee, a gentleman, politely called out and asked me to move my car. I immediately and respectfully said yes and was already handling the situation without any issue. What happened next was completely unnecessary and honestly humiliating. As I approached the exit, the store manager aggressively approached me in front of numerous customers and began speaking to me in a hostile, confrontational, and demeaning manner, repeatedly warning me she would call the police and telling me to “never park illegally there again.” She continued following me toward the door, yelling directly in my ear while I remained calm, apologetic, and cooperative the entire time.I have honestly never been treated with such disrespect by a manager in any establishment, especially over a situation that had already been politely resolved. There was absolutely no reason for the level of aggression, public embarrassment, and humiliation that followed. Being spoken to in that manner, in front of a crowd of people, was beyond unprofessional and incredibly uncomfortable. One employee handled the situation professionally and kindly, which only made the manager’s behavior stand out even more. Church Mouse should hold itself to a much higher standard when it comes to who they place in leadership positions. A manager represents the business, and if this is how customers are treated, people deserve to know before choosing to shop there.I walked in excited to support this store and left feeling embarrassed, disrespected, and deeply disappointed. Based on my experience, I would absolutely not recommend this establishment to others. No item, no matter how unique, “cool,” or good of a deal it may be, is worth being publicly disrespected and humiliated by management. Customer service, professionalism, and basic respect for customers clearly do not matter here, and no customer deserves to be treated the way I was today.I will not be returning and I hope you do the same.
MoreI absolutely adore these Church Mouse and visit every time I am in Palm Beach. I have consistently found the most unique and beautiful items there. This trip I bought a pair of diamond earrings and a pair of white slacks, the last trip I bought a few sweaters and a fun vintage magnifying glass. The trip before a beautiful wool hat with fur. I never leave disappointed. All of the volunteers are so helpful. Def worth visiting. Go in the morning. The best stuff sells fast.
MoreI specifically drove from Singer And slabs to Palm Beach to shop The Church Mouse.I really wanted to shop the Church Mouse hut there was no parking!
MoreI find items to be extremely overpriced. It is not a place where you will find a bargain. The staff is persnickety as well. Not a fun experience.
