Boyd Hill Nature Preserve Park

This pleasant park offers varied wilderness habitats sandwiched between a golf course, subdivisions, and the St. Pete skyline. You can bike through pine flatwoods dominating acres of palmetto or stroll a boardwalk through a willow marsh bordering Lake Maggiore. Swamp woodlands are richly diverse in trees, shrubs and what's hidden under and over them. Butterflies abound. You can also check out the gopher tortoise, protected by area scrubland. Guided tours are available, although some cost money, so it's best to bring cash. Rest stops along the way provide cold drinks. Admission: Adults 2 Dollars, Children (3-16) 1 Dollar; Under 3 free.

What a gem to find! Our family loves the outdoors and wildlife and this was a great stop. The staff was so friendly and helped us to a ride on tour with a great guide. The aviary was amazing as well. Several stops and lots of good information!

This is a large nature preserve with an aviary and lots of trails. The trails are well marked but you still need to pay attention to where you are and where you want to go. Excellent views and really nice place to walk. The exhibits in the lobby are fun as well.

The best $3 I ever spent! Went at the end of the day with a couple of friends not expecting much. Had a wonderful time exploring the site and spotting the wildlife. Totally worth the time!

Good place to enjoy nature in the middle of town. Nice nature, trails, where you can see birds and alligators. Also a good place to see some birds in captivity which have been rescued.Even some metal statues scattered around the grounds to give it an artsy feel.

So close to downtown but a world apart. Abundant wildlife -- birds of many types, alligators, even a tortoise. I loved the view over the lake to the skyline. Even some interesting sculptures.
