This 390-acre park in the heart of urbanized Pinellas County serves a dual purpose. Its lake, maple swamp and man-made canals act as water retention devices to prevent flood damage and at the same time, wildlife in abundance is attracted to the area. Here, you'll spot small mammals and rodents and, at dusk, you may see armadillos. A mile-long elevated boardwalk winds through the swamp and oak hammock, and an observation tower at lake's edge offers an up-top view. A tour booklet available at the Anderson Environmental Center will guide you through your walk and helps you identify the wildlife. Picnicking is permitted and there is no admission fee.

tripadvisorI’ve been going to this park for about five years. Fall 2025 storms did quite a lot of damage so boardwalks are still being repaired and some of my favorite shade trees are gone along path but it’s still very nice. Can hear lots of highway traffic in one side of the park and on the other you hear frequent shooting from the Skyway Trap and Skeet range across the lake in the back. Hate that part; don’t want to hear shots fired while trying to enjoy peacefulness of nature. Wish that place would close. Park is very pretty though and i usually spot a gator or two.
MoreVery unpleased with this place very pretty location. Thought I would have a picnic and enjoy myself but instead because we brought food to the park we got kicked out so if you’re planning to go to this location, do not bring any type of food because they will remove you from the Property I asked why they didn’t have a sign up saying that we cannot bring food and he stated that we cannot post signs for everything. That’s why they have me here.
MoreThis is a beautiful nature preserve. There is a well maintained boardwalk from which one can be immersed in a natural Floridian habitat. Walk to the tower to get a panoramic view of the area. Birds such as blue herons and darters can be seen as well reptiles including soft-shell turtles and of course alligators are present although I personally did not see any gators. There are plenty of joggers and walkers as well as sightseers. Unfortunately the water fountain was out of order so bring plenty of water.
MoreThe park as not as 'green' as it can be with more rain and summer weather. The eastern half of the walk was open and I saw butterflies, dragonflies, inch bug, chameleons, etc. They are still constructing the walk that goes to the lake viewing. I did not see any alligators or turtles today but I know they are there. If you want a quiet walk through what I call Florida 'woods' you will enjoy it. There is also a knoll type raised area on the south side of the stream where one could picnic. There are benches and some covered areas on the walk where rest is possible. Rest rooms consist of the typical outdoor compartments, not with plumbing. The building is not open to visitors at this time.
MoreDisappointed as we could have chosen any other park, but wanted ti come here first the boardwalk. It’s currently being reconstructed and closed through like 2/24. Check before you go.
