The railroad has played an integral part in the history of Southwest Florida as well as throughout the entire state. Here at the RRMSF (as it's affectionately known), kids and adults can ride the mini-trains as well as learn more about locomotives. Inside the museum, there are real train cars, artifacts, documents, placards and other old-fashioned items from the rails of yesteryear.

tripadvisorI would highly recommend you go early as it was blazing hot, but we knew that being FL natives. The train is small, but the ride is lovely, and the miniatures are a bonus. Wear sunscreen and bring a hat for the train and the surrounding park has nice trails, but we were on a schedule crunch. The museum is small but well laid out with loads of information about the railroad history and short film we didn't view due to our rush.
MoreThis museum has a model train in the middle of the room going around and around. The walls are plastered with historical articles, info and posters about the trains in Florida. The museum also has a small theatre for a movie. The museum offers a 15 minute 1.5 mile life size train for anyone over 1 years of age but no pregnant women. The train ride took us through models of Florida towns set in 1950s, and even a small burning house on fire.My grandkids love the model train in the museum as much as they love riding the real train.wheel chair access can parking pay by app. The museum is accessible at entrance.Mens and women's restrooms are accessible with grab bars
MoreThis Special attraction is located inside the Lakes Regional Park which is located off Gladiolus Drive and Old Gladiolus Drive. The park has several places to see and visit. There is a large parking lot so parking should not be a problem. The Railroad Museum and railroad are to the right as you enter. The museum is hard to miss as there is a large railroad engine visible from the parking lot that is across the walkway from a large building that houses the museum. The museum is inside a building behind the jungle gym next to the parking lot. The museum is free. It is a large room with several operating scale trains running around the center and near the roof. There is at least one hands-on display that you can see the operating console for an engineman. There are lots of informational displays situated around the room describing the history of trains and the railroad museum. There is a lot to read and a lot of history associated with trains, Florida, and the Fort Myers area. If you have a chance, I highly recommend spending a few dollars and getting a ticket to ride the train right outside the museum. For any train enthusiast this is a must-see in the area.
MoreThis is a great value activity for families, couples or singles; it costs adults $5 for the train ride and the small museum is free.We picked up 5 drawings of past trains for just $10.In the adjacent park are plenty of ctivities for kids.
MoreWonderful little museum with a lot of history packed into a well-organized (and air conditioned!) space. There is something for everyone and the staff was super friendly and informative. It’s a must-see for any train enthusiast, or anyone with an interest in history - very well done!
