Venice Symphony Band, Orchestra, & Symphony

The Venice Symphony was incorporated in November 1974 when 56 area volunteer musicians joined together under the leadership of Hartley Haines, the director of music in the public schools. Originally, the orchestra played three concerts in the Venice High School auditorium with banks and subscribers covering the costs. As operating costs increased and the musicians were compensated, and The Symphony began to charge for tickets. In 2016, Christine Kasten was named Executive Director. Also in 2016, Bank of America began sponsoring a Pre-Concert Talk Series, a free and informal discussion with the Maestro and guest soloists, moderated by Alan Gardner and open to the public.

Venice residents and guests are so lucky to have a jewel of a symphony in their midst. We love the conductor and enjoy the talks that occur before each performance. The solo artists in every concert that we have attended have been excellent and the pianist for this last concert was superb.

Ladies and Gentlemen! I am a classical musician and an award-winning international concert cellist, music pedagogue and recording artist. I am also a fourth-generation musician. Should there exist a “TOP 10” of the most unfavorable of orchestras in the world, ‘The Venice Symphony’ is placing highest ranking. During my lifelong career as a performing artist, never-ever have I encountered a working environment more toxic and unprofessional. The bottom low industry of entertainment standards are maintained by the orchestra’s administration, conductor and concertmaster. This trio dragging respective musicians and artists thru the mire is supported by local music critics. The experts. Be prepared to be taken back into your seats, literally, as this orchestras instrumental sectionals battle it out, who can drill-out the most unspectacularly loud “noise”. The violent behavior with a tool in hand, also known as an instrument, will crescendo endlessly, alerting a most devoted audience of elderly and infirm: ‘soon it is time to clap and standing ovations’! It is to be expected during any performance “Minimum Karajan, Maximum Quinn”, the conductor, will lift off the podium with both his feet, in exuberant joy and happiness. This loose canon-establishment, ‘The Venice Symphony’, facilitate their symphonic mirage and tasteless local “wine tasting events” in the heart of Americas greatest retirement home, Venice, Florida. Should you suffer of auditory and visual impairment, this is without a doubt your ‘to-go-to’ cultural chutzpah. Respectfully yours, Steve Kramer
