The NewSouth Bookstore is an independent bookstore located in downtown Montgomery at the corner of Washington and Court Streets, one block from the Court Square fountain. They sell new and used books, some of which are out of print and rare. Their focus is primarily Southern American, including Montgomery, Alabama, and Southern history, Civil Rights, Civil War, Native American, African American, Military/Aviation, and selected fiction and poetry. Special ordering and shipping are available on most new books. Tour groups and book clubs are welcomed.

MoreThe NewSouth Bookstore has a little bit of everything. The literature section is excellent and the history section is phenomenal. Grab a coffee next door and go browse wonderful finds.
MoreWe wandered into New South Books on our recent visit to Montgomery...and it turned out to be one of the highlights of our visit. The owner is a history buff (and publisher of books on the South). He used to work at the Southern Poverty Law Center where he was the founder of their Clan Watch program. He gives historical tours of Montgomery....and is full of recommendations on what to see and interesting stories about the area. Highly recommend spending some time here!
