Bellingrath Gardens & Home Botanical Garden

Bellingrath gardens, a creation of Mr. & Mrs. Bellingrath, was first opened to public in 1932. The couple announced in 1932, when a national garden club meeting took place, that anyone wanting to see their garden could do so for free. On visiting it you would be a witness to different colors and fragrances, depending on which season of the year you visit. Different kinds of flowers grow there: camellias, azaleas, roses, chrysanthemums, to name a few. The Bellingrath home built in 1935 has 15 rooms and was built by the famous architect, George B. Rogers. Made with hand-made bricks this garden encompases 10,500 square feet of space. A visit to the house gives you the classic Renaissance feel. Visit Bellingrath Gardens & Homes and revel in the nature's beauty.

A nice time but lacking in several ways. The gardens required, well gardening. Several areas noticed where the up keep isn't all that inspiring. Still an interesting time. The food served definitely needs to be improved.

The Gardens surely used to be beautiful but now with all the gigantic plastic flora & fauna have become more a theme park for kids.. no botanic tips for plants and trees, great effort of the gardeners but no respect for nature.

I was expecting another southern plantation home, but that isn’t what this house is at all. Walter (who made his fortune as a bottler for Coca Cola) and Bessie Bellingrath built the gardens first and later the home, which was completed in 1935. The gardens are very nice to wander around in, but I suspect would be really warm in summer months. The home tour takes about one hour and is filled with original furniture, belongings, art, and collections of the Bellingraths. The home is beautiful and the tour very interesting. Tip: Tours are on the hour. We arrived right at noon, but that is too late for the noon tour because it takes at least 10-15 minutes to walk through the garden to the home. Arrive at least 15-20 minutes before the tour time you want. There is a small café, gift shop and restrooms.

We arrived here during an unexpected cold spell. The Camillas had started blooming and the extreme cold had caused some of the blossoms to fall off. The grounds are lovely and very walkable. It was very windy causing the bamboo to clatter together- which was beautiful. The house is stunning. The recycling and use of building materials was amazing. The china collection was breathtaking as was the dining room. Actually, the entire house and grounds will be worth another visit when the place is in bloom.

We thoroughly enjoyed our nighttime tour of the home and gardens during the Christmas season. The lights and displays were very well presented. The home was interesting and the tour guides were well informed and interesting. We were not able to figure out how to purchase tickets on line but most everyone had so I’m guessing it was our problem.
