Reviews
tripadvisorWe were a bit hesitant about booking this hotel based on the reviews however, trusting the Doubletree brand we took a chance due to its convenient location. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by David at reception. He was courteous and professional, going out of his way to make us, Diamond members feel welcomed. The renovation was complete and looks inviting. Ambiance was simple, clean modern. Decor was more upscale than anticipated with comfortable bedding and furnishings. Having everything we needed for a comfortable weekend including two pools a hot-tub and an outdoor resort like atmosphere without the fees. Food: Having only breakfast, except for the scrumptious, welcome cookies, and refreshing fruit flavored water, I can say that breakfast was reasonably priced and satisfying. There was a 24 hour sundry and snack area that offered light meals, snacks, beverages, and even wine/beer. So why not a five star review? Well, it was noisy. Not so much the hotels shortfall, more the fault of other guests; talking loudly in the hall and consistently slamming their door. Would I return? Yes, prepared with earplugs.
MoreAdquate hotel, kind of updated but you can tell they didn't spend lots doing it. Restaurant is kind of sad and small and the pool is pretty small too. I was here for a wedding in the area. The staff was friendly and the price was good. it's a pretty basic place but was good for my needs. If I needed to stay in Gilbert again, I would return. Good upgrade to Jr. Suite as a diamond member too. Cannot complain. Better than the reviews here say it is.
MoreThis hotel was highly recommended. While the rooms are very spacious and the beds are very comfortable, there are things that can be improved. The ice machines and flooring are being renovated and therefore, there is an interruption in the amenities and the lack of a quiet night, if you happen to be near the construction site. Unfortunately, this was my experience and it interrupted my sleep for 2 nights. I will say that Jhoy, from the front desk, was so professional and apologetic. Unlike the women that I spoke to on both events, 2 am and 11:39pm. She became a part of the problem instead of the solution. Whoever she is, she needs training in customer service and her responses towards the guests, especially when there is something so impactful that it is almost anxiety provoking with the lack of sleep.Upon check out, I was able to speak with the manager, Lauren. She listened to my feedback and was apologetic and took action to compensate for the hotel falling short on providing a great experience. I am grateful for her service recovery efforts. We did eat breakfast in the dining area. The coffee was good($3), but the biscuits and gravy and fried potatoes were awful. The biscuits were hard, dry and tasted stale. The gravy was a thick, pasty clump that was totally inedible. The older lady working there was super nice and she was working alone but had a great attitude.Overall, most of the staff were great. I would check the hotel to see if the construction is completed before booking. Again, kudos to Jhoy. She is amazing and should be the employee of the month and give her a raise! I’m sure that she has to deal with a lot working during the day.
MoreOpen while under construction, hallways so full of dust you can barely see the end of the hall, no ice machines on first or fourth floor, carbon monoxide detectors wrapped in plastic to keep them from going off, and worst of all when I asked the front desk for a mask or something to help with the dust, they somehow thought two bottles of water would help!?!Rooms are large but very oddly configured. The “desk” chair is an ottoman, the bedside tables wobble and look like they should be vintage video game assets or like they’re leftover set pieces from an 80s B space movie. There’s a curtain near the window, but it only covers the wall… I can only guess the designers of this place were on ayahuasca, or simply too frugal to care about appearances.
MoreGreat people work here. Jhoy is outstanding at the front desk. The cleaning crew are friendly and helpful. The only downside is the restaurant offers almost nothing for the evening meal. It has become pretty much a breakfast place. We stay here every year, when we visit family in Gilbert.
