Horribly infested with ticks! Wife and I were on trail for about 10 minutes before we saw no less than 100 swarming us! Yes, I know this is TN and ticks are bad, but this is absolutely ridiculous!

My family went to visit the owl sanctuary today, August 13, 2024 and saw 5 owls. Then went on a short hike which they stayed on the trail! Workers told them they the trail would be fine to hike since they just sprayed and cut the grass recently. Upon hiking, they were infested with tiny seed ticks smaller than a poppy seed! Their shoes were encased with ticks that quickly ran up their bodies and private parts!!! When they saw, they ran and had to strip to get as many as they could off of them. It was a horrific experience! The workers at the sanctuary were helpful in providing tape, hand sanitizer, a towel and garbage bags to put their clothes in. The workers said it is a bad season for ticks! Praying that no one gets sick from tick bites! If you like to hike, best to wait for colder weather! The extra star was for the help provided my family. Please warn people ahead of time or post a sign!

Worth the drive to this out-of-the-way spot. Rustic, so wear appropriate shoes for the short hike. It was very muddy when we were there. Porta potties and picnic tables available by gravel parking area. Ranger was helpful and steered us in the direction of a short hike, but there are many open areas to explore also. Only a few owls to see up close, but plenty of other wildlife to find in the woods. Nice for an outdoor break.

A wonderful place to visit for a hike, if you are in the Brentwood or Franklin, Tennessee, area. I attended their guided Fall hike led by a naturalist. It was a 2 hour experience, but we only covered about 2.4 miles. However, we learned things every step of the way. The Fall colors were lovely in mid-October. For $12 this was a positive, outdoor experience.
