Two Rivers Mansion Historical Monument

This residence still speaks to the fortune and life of David McGavock, a prominent Nashvillian of the mid 19th century. We really enjoyed the guided tour of the mansion and the 1802 house. Our guide was very knowledgeable and was very friendly. My wife and I were the only people on the tour. This is a great mansion it is very nice and the grounds are very peaceful. Highly recommended.

Geneology is the study of families, family history and the tracing of lineages and ancestral descent. I'm not a geneologist but I study the backgrounds of ownership of antebellum homes in the South and look what I've discovered? Two Rivers Mansion in Nashville, Tennesse, was built in 1859 for David H. McGavock, a cousin of the McGavocks who owned the Carnton plantation in Franklin, Tennessee, 22 miles south of Nashville on today's I-65. The family of David McGavock's wife owned Belle Meade plantation in Nashville. What goes around comes around, right? Located at 3130 McGavock Pike, between the Stones River and the Cumberland River, Two Rivers is a two-story red brick structure designed in the Italianate architectural design and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. It was inhabited by the McGavock family for three generations until l965. Once part of a 1,100-acre plantation, it is adjacent to a Federal-style red brick house named The 1802 House that the McGavocks lived in while Two Rivers was under construction. Today, the surrounding land has been converted into a park with an 18-hole golf course, baseball and softball diamonds, six tennis courts and a playground.

I took the Spirit Legends Tour and had a wonderful time! I had taken the regular history tour earlier this summer and enjoyed it. My guide told me about the Spirit Legends Tour in October so I made plans for a return visit. This tour covers the history of the home but, also some spooky stories about the home and the McGavock family. This is a night tour and the home definitely has a different vibe after dark then during the day. You also get to tour the original 1802 home which has a history of reports of paranormal activity by people who have investigated it. Great tour so happy I took it and highly recommend it.

I took the tour of Two Rivers Mansion today and SO Happy I did! I had an absolutely wonderful time! I was the only one on the tour which made it a very special experience. I didn't realize that the original mansion was part of the tour which made the tour extra special. Right now, the outside of the main mansion is undergoing restoration but please don't let that stop you, the inside is open and completely accessible. There are two stories to each home but easy to climb. The home is beautiful. You should check their website for hours and days the mansion is open
