I think the pictures of the lake and bridge are not from this park. I spent a couple of hours exploring this natural area. Google maps brings you down an unpaved road and the parking area is just a small turn out. The area was lovely for hiking and is clearly a mountain bikers haven as there were bike tracks everywhere and a few bikers in the early morning. Trail is sandy and steep in places. Views are nice. I saw quail, a hare, and lots of coyote poop. Lots of snake tracks.

We are hiking the San Dieguito River Challenge, and have enjoyed learning more about the park. The Park extends from the ocean at Del Mar to the San Dieguito River’s source on Volcan Mountain near Julian. There are flat areas and quite steep hills. Beautiful views, great bird watching, and a nice hike into nature close to town.

So I live on this park and encourage people to share it with their friends. It is the park of the future. 55 miles long from Del Mar upland to the headwaters of the San Dieguito. Bike it, hike it..easy to get onto the trail and if you got an hour or a whole day..this is where you can unwind without having to drive very far. It is easiest for folks north of 56 but it is only 25 minutes toKearny Mesa. Lots of birds and off the I-15 you have Lake Hodges, formerly known as the Super Bowl of Bass Fishing.Check it out.

Long hiking trail. Good birdwatching. Adjacent to a large orange grove, agricultural preserve, and protected area along the river. Hikers and equestrians share the trail. Not much shade, so bring water. Dogs are allowed on-leash.
