Cooper-Young is an eclectic neighborhood and historic district in the Midtown section of Memphis, Tennessee, that is known for its shops, restaurants and bars. Located at the intersection of Cooper Street and Young Avenue, the entrance to the neighborhood is marked by the Cooper-Young Trestle, a 150-foot long steel sculpture which was dedicated in 2000, depicts homes and businesses found in the neighborhood and has become a source of community pride and identity. In 2012, Cooper-Young was named one of the 10 Great Neighborhoods in the United States by the American Planning Association. Visit The House of Mews, a shelter for homeless cats, or Goner Records or Jay Etkin Gallery and Burke's Book Store or Memphis Made Brewing, a local brewery, or Pilgrim House Hostel, Memphis' only hostel. For a bite to eat, choose among Java Cabana, Soul Fish Cafe, Cooper's, Aldo's Pizza Pies, No Comment Wine Bar, Hammer and Ale, Central BBQ, The Beauty Shop, Celtic Crossing or Young Avenue Deli. But Cooper-Young is best known for its annual Cooper-Young Festival, always the second weekend after Labor Day, starts with an Art Invitational on Thursday, a four-mile run on Friday and arts and crafts vendors and live music performances on Saturday. Founded as a flea market in 1977, the festival has grown to be one of the most highly attended events in the state with over 400 artisans from around the country and over 130,000 attendees.

This is a super cool little town. We rented an AIRBNB here and it was perfect. Great places to eat and walk around. We felt very safe.

We staid right up the street in two minutes walking distance. Lovely little area. The main attraction for us was the 100% vegan restaurant Imagine Vegan! There are coffee shops and lots of restaurants. Staying here comes with airplane and train noise though!

We heard so many good things about this area so we decided to check it out. The book store and The Beauty Shop were great but the rest was disappointing. Too many restaurants and not enough shops.

This is a wonderful area especially during good weather. Great eating places, a cat rescue and fun arts and craft fair in September. Go and check it out.
