King's Palace Cafe's Absinthe Room has the advantage of being located on Memphis' busy Beale Street, but removed from much of the commotion outside by being located on the second floor. A sign will guide you up the stairs where you'll find pool games going on in three different rooms and people lounging on couches enjoying drinks.

tripadvisorBeen going here for a few years whenever I can make it to Memphis. I always liked the atmosphere, but i just got back from there and some freak in an employee shirt was basically fingering the short haired female bartender and then started acting like he going to fight me for beating him at pool. Super weird experience, be careful who is working if you come here. Its usually great in my experience, but I guess some employees like to start fights if they're off work? just be ready to leave if one of the employees gets aggressive and you should be fine!
MoreWe stopped here on a Sunday night. Enjoyed the absinthe preparation. I don't like licorice but actually liked the drink because it has more complex flavors. Music at comfortable level, and several pool tables. Really enjoyable, chill space. Would come back anytime.
MoreIt was old, tucked away upstairs, and perfect. It felt like taking a step back in time. We enjoyed one of the pool rooms with neon letters in the windows over looking Beale Street. The brick walls, old fire place mantels, wood floors and decor created an old classic atmosphere. The bartender was laid back yet attentive. One of my favorites on Beale.
MoreWe came here to grab drinks and hangout before visiting another spot that didn't open until late night. There are pool tables and games everywhere! Downstairs was pretty packed and we weren't able to find an open table. We did find one upstairs. Unfortunately, the table kept stealing our cue ball or not giving all the balls back to restart the game. We had to get the bartender multiple times to fix the table for us. He was cool about it and we appreciate that. If you're into Absinthe, this is the place to drink it. They have different flavors/types to order and the bartender does a great job prepping the drink. If you've never had it before, sip someone else's before getting your own. It's a pricey drink and most people don't enjoy it. If you don't like Absinthe, order any other drink, they still have plenty to choose from.
MoreThis place isn’t busy for a reason, the drinks are crazy overpriced. “Absinthe” tastes like licorice, not an enjoyable experience. The preparation is cool but otherwise skip it. If you’re going to do it, go with a group and order one, watch it be prepared and enjoy the spiel, everyone take a sip of the “absinthe” and move along.
