tripadvisorFor a small theater, It only holds 134 seats, it is HUGE on talent! Sister Act was the last production and it was amazing! They had to add 2 more performances just to keep patrons happy! Home town talent is the best, if you get a chance you need to go see a show!
MoreFine acting in our local venue. All seats are near the stage. One cannot miss the excitement of the stage cast as they perform for the audience.
MoreIf you like live theatre, I would suggest seeing a production at the Shelby County Community Theatre. We recently saw two productions at the theatre and thoroughly enjoyed both. The facility is small so no seats are bad. The quality of the acting and directing are top notch. They often have special shows like concerts and new shows. In the program it tells that the next musical will be 'Oklahoma' which should be fun.
MoreWe have been supporting members and regular attendees at SCCT for about 5 years now - my son even was a member of the chorus for one of the children's productions (Mulan Jr.) back in 2011. The great thing about the SCCT is the INTIMACY - you are literally so close to the stage - (the theater is relatively very small) you feel you can almost reach out and touch the actors and props! Some productions have even had the cast come up into the seats and interact with the audience. Not only are you so close to the production physically - but in many cases the actors are your neighbors, your mailman, people you run into at the store, the bank and in the park! Many very talented local actors grace the stage on a regular basis... Rick, Erin, Corey, Alex, Emmy are all frequent stars and just a few of the notable and incredibly talented performers. occasionally out of town actors with big city and even professional acting credentials will appear in a production. you can never be sure who will appear in the next production, but you can be sure one of the locals will wow you with their talent. SCCT has allowed me to expose and educate my son in the tradition of countless iconic stage productions like the Crucible, South Pacific, Harvey, and coming soon - Oklahoma! He prefers the comedies and I love the musicals. The Foreigner had us both laughing so hard we were sore the next day! Pricing is very reasonable for an evening of up close and personal entertainment - check out the SCCT - they have been going strong for over 30 years now - catch a production and you will see why. One tip - I recommend the Main Section of the audience seating (as opposed to the overflow seats at the end of the room under the production booth) - reserve your tickets early to get the main section - and front row if possible -it's hard to beat having a front row seat to see your neighbors a few feet away blow you away with a talented piece of song, dance or comedy!
MoreThis theater is a quaint little place of enjoyment. I have been several times and have yet to be disappointed. I would say that Shelbyville is full of talent.
