After a 5 year hiatus Actors has brought back A Christmas Carol. The new executive director and new artistic director have been working hard on making Actors Theatre a major player In Louisville’s arts scene once again. Although they no longer have huge casts and apprentices performing they now employ local talented actors many of which play multiple roles. There are less major set changes but have utilized their talents and imagination to produce a classic holiday show that has become a staple of the community. This is only the beginning. I am excited for the future.

A very interesting start to this new original performance FDR's Happy Hour. The actors were amazing and the story quite uplifting and entertaining. There was also some deep thinking at the end. Live shows as they should be. Comfortable seating with great views from all areas.

This was our first visit here in 2 years because of Covid. Sadly Covid shut down the theater and we missed the last two plays that season. Fortunately we still had a credit and were able to attend the play Every Brilliant Thing. It was a short play only 80 minutes long but truly enjoyable especially if you have been deprived of live theater for 2 years. Much of what Actors does now is offer patrons the ability to stream plays online. To be honest my wife and I prefer live performances as streaming seems a bit cold and distant. Hopefully there will be more live performances as in the past that we can all enjoy.

I LOVE this theater no bad seats in this lovely theater in the round. I've seen a few Dracula productions over the years and I must say this 2019 take on the classic horror story left me disappointed. In my opinion if it's not broke don't fix it. For me, it just didn't work. Sure there was smoke, loud bangs, etc. but they've had better productions in the past. Dracula's cape reminded me of a black plastic trash bag, don't know what it was made of but ... The actors were professional and did a good job, but it seemed they were trying too hard. Where were the foggy graveyards of past, where were the vampires and pools of blood? It just wasn't the quality of past performances in my opinion. The rat was cute. If you've never seen any of the other productions of Dracula then I'm sure you will enjoy the 2019 version, I just didn't.

My wife and I have been to this play 20 of the 25 years it has been playing. We had not been in 2017 or 2018. Our impression of this year's version was that it was the worst interpretation on the story we have seen. The writers created roles for secondary characters, interjected singing that served no purpose and included poorly performed fight action scenes. None of which advanced the story. The cast did not seem prepared to play their roles. Some of the actors allowed their own heritage to overshadow the character they played. I have seen several reviews heralding how wonderful this play was. The only way I have to explain these is that those reviewers had not seen how much better it has been.
