The Singletary Center is a wonderful venue to watch and hear a great concert. It's very quaint, yet large enough to accommodate several thousand.

A friend and I attended the Lexington Philharmonic presentation of Finlandia and the Legends of the Northern Lights at Singletary Center for the Arts, last evening. We began our excursion by accepting Valet Parking at the very reasonable cost of $10. We joined in with the Pre-show discussion with Conductor Scott Terrell and Film creator Jose Salgado. The Center is very comfortable. Though there are several Women's restrooms, if seems like there should be more stalls, but still comfortable. The performance room had very comfortable seating with plenty of room to move around, when needed. The Concert and film presentation were perfect and we knew we had made the right choice to attend. We were the last of the group to receive our car ant this was about 45 minutes after the show had concluded. There is an Art Gallery in the Center. We did not have the opportunity to check it out, but will in the future.

The concert hall seems designed for numbers, not comfort. The floor has 60 seat long rows. If you are in the middle, enjoy squeezing by 29 people without tripping. The seats are crammed together like an airplane. If you have trouble with stairs, forget it. It's ten stairs to anywhere, if not 30. I am sure they have a handicap area as required by the ADA, but as someone on a cane, the seating and the stairs were very uncomfortable. Don't bank on help either. I know this is relative, but at the event I attended, there were only 2 ushers who seemed oblivious to their job duties. They never left the sides of the stage and people were left to find their own seats.

We were very disappointed with this museum. They had two special exhibits the day we visited, Kurt Vonnegut and a photography exhibit. The symbolism was lost on us. The permanent collection was pitiful. We were happy there was no charge.

The Singletary Center is a nice place on the University of Kentucky's campus to catch a play or concert.
