The works of art are poorly conceived if not actually some amateur artist's basement bargain, i.e. the hunks of metal littering Collingwood Blvd. Moreover, the murals' sites and situations are scarcely taken into account. Some are placed where they face parking lots, which isn't a great setting for viewing art. Others are placed in even worse areas like along high-speed and -traffic areas where you can only glimpse them at 35+ mph. I'd say they should put more thought into their placement, but I'm afraid they've already exceeded their abilities of thought.

They only seem to support formally trained artist ventures, or friends. Passed up supporting the first Toledo film festival that was free to enter and free to attend its first year. Those individuals seem much more visionary. Not every one can afford a formal arts education. Please branch out. Be more fair.

A great example of their work is located on LaGrange down by Central Ave between Dexter and Everett. There were 4 pieces of beautiful art there, as shown below. You can see the art from the street, as it was a short distance between.

The folks of the Arts Commission of Greater Toledo do an outstanding job in covering our city and surroundings with wonderful public art installations. They also develop young talent in paid programs like Young Arts At Work, for artists 14-18 years of age. I have no idea what Toledo would be like without the Arts Commission, but I imagine it would be a lot grayer.

The Arts Commission sponsors art walks in downtown Toledo during the summer. 2014 Art Walks took place the 4th Thursday of each month, May - September, 6-9pm. I attended the September one and had a great time. They give you a map of the art on display in the city and they also offered a free guided tour, which we took advantage of. Many people turned it into a kind of art walk/bar crawl as you walk around to see the art. The picture attached is of the map they gave us. I suppose if you are not there on a day when they are doing this, you can at least visit the art and/or galleries that are listed on the map!
