Though the library's history goes back to the 19th Century, the current main branch was erected in 1969. Akron-Summit County Public Library underwent a major renovation in 2004 to keep up with the pace of modern times. It also hosts movie screenings, poetry slams, craft workshops and story times. Besides a children's library, the facility covers various zones such as Culture & AV, Special Collections, Business & Government, Magazines & Newspapers, and Science & Technology. The three-level library also features a 425-seat theater, meeting spaces, a used book-store, an outdoor amphitheater, Microbusiness Center, U.S. Passport and Notary services, study rooms, computer labs, a recording studio and cafe.

tripadvisorPlease don't send your kids alone. Between the homeless that go to get out of the cold and the clients of local halfway houses, you don't know who is lurking around. Yes they have security but they are not everywhere. It is a very good library and staff know their stuff. So as long as you just don't drop your kids off and pay attention to them, it is a valuable place of learning.
MoreWe visit this place fairly regularly. I’m usually doing research in the microfilm section and my wife is checking out the latest videos. This is a well-run place that has a lot of children’s activities. It is highly recommended!
MoreI enjoyed the open atmosphere of the library and the ease of parking to complete some research. Staff was very helpful and only wish I had more time to spend at the library.
MoreThis is the main branch of the library. Huge collection of books, CD's, and movies. I love the fact that the library offers Blu Rays. The library even has small kitchen appliances available for checkout (last time I checked). Free parking is available (for up to 1 hour) in the adjacent lot if you get your parking ticket validated. It is also nearby the Akron Art Museum so you could visit both at the same time. However, I wish the library would start offering video games for checkout. It would be a great way to get kids involved in the library. I know books are better than video games, but I would love to at least try out a game before buying it. They offer video game guides, so why not the games too?
MoreI go to the library at least once a month to pay my bills online. Always greeted by the friendly staff when I arrive.
