tripadvisorWe attended to see the Kent Monkman special exhibition, which was excellent. The permanent collection is small, but interesting. The staff was very friendly.
More3.5 - because - If Contemporary Art is not your thing, you may find only about 1/3 of collection interesting. If you don't mind contemporary/modern then there's more to appreciate. Some of the special exhibits actually very interesting including an extensive retrospective on Michelangelo Lovelace who I'd never heard of and who was largely self-taught and painted from his own urban perspective. Some of this feels locally focused and you won't find the major 'names' from mid-20th century, but all in all interesting and not a waste of time. With open mind appreciation it is worth the $12 - if not, and you're budgeting hours, stick to Cleveland Art Museum which is a much more traditional experience and is, frankly, fantastic. Very engaging docent on duty; I do believe I was chatted up, lol.
MoreI like that the museum had a collection of older more traditional pieces that showcased landscapes as well as more modern artwork that was interesting. At least the informational plaques gave you an idea of what the artist may have been thinking or trying to convey. It's worth the visit to support our local cultural establishments!
MoreThe current retrospective exhibit celebrating the museum's 100th anniversary is intriguing to say the least. Emma, a staff member, truly enlivened our visit with interesting details about various works. The museum is easily accessible, well laid-out and nicely representative of numerous art genres and forms. It was an exceptionally pleasant stop on our way to Columbus.
MoreModern space providing an open, airy feel for art. Not a stuffy museum for sure. Many events are also hosted here and on the courtyard. Nice staff as well
