tripadvisorWhat a shame for a city like Madison to let this gem atrophy into what it has become. Dead trees. Dead grass. Weeds and vines all over. Dirt instead of turf. Skip this one and go anywhere else in the city.
MoreThis nice park has a lock that connects the two main lakes in Madison. There is good grass areas, but access to the water is really hard on the feet with sharp rocks. There eis anice breakwater that protects the boats preparing to go through the lock. It is nice walk out on the breakwater and we had a nice sunset view over the lake. We even got to water the evening fresh water otters swimming along the breakwater. The picnic tables are sparse so plan to eat on the ground and there are several benches. It was a beautiful park with good volleyball and other play equipment for children. There is also a boat launch.
MoreLots of things to do here in all seasons: swimming, boating, lake watching, ice skating, general walking and relaxing
MoreOne of several city parks around Madison that host outdoor ice skating when weather & ice conditions permit, the Tenney Park lagoon between Sherman Ave. & E. Johnson St. (access via N. Thorton Ave.) makes for a memorable outing for visitors and local skating enthusiasts (shinny hockey players & recreational skaters). The John Wall Family Pavilion offers a warm & comfortable space for skaters to put on and take off their gear with quick access to the lagoon ice surface. The indoor concession stand also offers refreshments, as well as rental skates & hockey sticks (when available). The attractive arch of Tenney Park's pedestrian bridge provides a photo-worthy backdrop for the on-ice activities on a cold mid-winter day; and the horseshoe-shaped lagoon offers plenty of space for individuals & families to skate, without interference with the enthusiastic pick-up hockey groups that gather there on weekends & holidays. Tenney & similar park facilities around town are local treasures, and I hope they are maintained by the city & its volunteer caretakers for many years to come.
MoreSmall Sandy Beach for swimming, lots of ducks and hike/bike path. This is a serene place that's magical on a sunny day. It would be a perfect picnic spot.
