tripadvisorThe new version of A Christmas Carol was so awful and heartbreaking after so many years of excellence. It felt rushed, the acting was horrible at times, and the ridiculous halloween decoration they used to replace the phenomenal actor who played the ghost of Christmas future was appalling. My family and I will never go to this one again. Such a shame.
MoreChristmas Carol! Christmas woke!!!!! The old one is a million times better. Nothing is better, other than how the seats are in the theater. So sad to see such a great tradition die. Our family has been going for years. We left after the intermission.
MoreAfter 28 years and three scrooges, I can say this latest production leaves me very much underwhelmed. If you didn’t know the story behind the play, you wouldn’t know why the spirits visited Scrooge. Usually, I leave the play in a little better Christmas spirit, but this play left me in the same condition that I arrived in. Until key scenes are added and a ‘growth’ of Scrooge is shown, this play is a definite skip.
MoreWe flew back to see A Christmas Carol after moving away and it was not worth it. It was not the heartwarming experience that I saw 2 years ago. The changes they made were not positive ones.
MoreWent to see the new version of A Christmas Carol, a wonderful play that my family have been coming to see every year since I was very little. I was very impressed by the new theatre and layout of the new building, it used the space better than I thought the previous design had. The reason why I am reviewing this so low is more because of the play, not the venue itself: if this new version of the play is supposed to be a similar version to the previous plays, then it is like the director never read or even saw the previous versions. The story is the same, of course, but there is no heart, no soul to any of the performance: the characters perform with false British accents (even the returning ones), Scrooge hovers over every scene like he is isolating himself from the rest of the cast, and it feels as though each scene must be rushed through. I almost expected to see commercials part way through the play, it felt like they were taking advantage of the audience's trust in the quality of the previous plays and turning the whole play into what felt like a made for TV special. The actors did their best and brought a lot of charm to the production, but you can only do so much with such a poorly constructed play, and save it they could not.
