Ensemble Theater Cincinnati Theater

( CINCINNATI, OH ) From a treacherous bowling alley, to the battlefields of France, to America's trailer park backyard, Ensemble Theatre of Cincinnati ( ETC ) announces its 2007-2008 season. A Pulitzer Prizeand Tony Award -winning drama, a smash-hit New York musical, and the return of one of the most popular holiday shows round out ETC's 22nd season of premiere theatre. As ETC continues its mission of producing new works and works new to the region, we are thrilled to enter our next stage, explains ETC Artistic Producing Director D. Lynn Meyers. Each of the shows this season deal with people who either by choice or necessity need to make a new beginning. It's an honor to present this line-up of shows to Cincinnati audiences. We are extremely grateful that our 2006-2007 season was our best-attended season in our 21-year history. We're excited to build upon this momentum and we believe we have the right shows to continue this outstanding success.ETC's production of I Am My Own Wife will be remounted at Peterborough Players theatre in New Hampshire opening September 19, 2007, again starring Todd Almond and under the direction of D. Lynn Meyers. On another stage, ETC's recent production of Souvenir will open abroad September 9, 2007 at the English Speaking Theatre of Vienna. Michael E. Haney will again direct Neva Rae Powers and Scot Woolley. Part of ETC's New Stage of development is the expansion of co-productions with other regional theatres. I'm delighted that I Am My Own Wife and Souvenir will breathe again and reach new audiences, remarks Meyers.Along his path to becoming a world-renowned pianist, Jake Tomlinson detours, ending up a small-town bowling champion whose love life is riddled with gutter balls. Two of his three young wives died in freak bowling accidents ; the other left him lovesick and single-handedly raising his firecracker daughter. And who is the mysterious man with dark glasses and a revolver lurking nearby? Keeping a graveside vigil, a paranoid Jake replays the key frames of his life while pondering his predicament and prophesized untimely death. Eccentrically philosophical, this grave comedy proves that life is, indeed, more fun than bowling.Radio Golf is the final of Pulitzer Prizeand Tony Award -winner August Wilson's ambitious and powerful ten-play, decade-by-decade cycle chronicling the 20th-century African-American experience. Set in 1997, this fast-paced, dynamic drama centers upon Mayoral hopeful Harmond Wilks, who has a surefire plan to revitalize Pittsburgh's economically depressed Hill District with a slick new real estate venture that will also propel him to become the city's first black mayor. Standing in the way, though, is the mythic house at 1839 Wylie Avenue and the man who claims to own it. Completed only months before Wilson's untimely death in 2005, this final chapter depicts a fragile community wrestling with the commercial temptations and the cultural risks of paving over its heritage. This hilarious and tuneful domestic melodrama is set in Armadillo Acres, a North Florida trailer park, where having your baby kidnapped isn't half as tragic as getting a bad perm. The story revolves around Norbert, a toll-booth attendant, and his despondent wife Jeannie whose 20-year marriage is threatened by newcomer, the hot young stripper Pippi. A comedy about agoraphobia, adultery, 80s nostalgia, spray cheese, road kill, hysterical pregnancy, kleptomania, strippers, flan, and disco. It's everything a musical should be.Single tickets will go on sale to the public in August 2007. What an absolutely fantastic world-premiere production of Corner of the Sky. I was moved to tears by this stellar production. I hope that this musical review showcasing the songs of Stephen Schwartz is performed by other theater troupes throughout the USA and beyond.

This venue has become amazing! We've been in the past where it wasn't much but still a cool concept - now... wow! It's modern and beautiful! But the play - Alice in Wonderland was highly disappointing. We'll still go back to the theater because honestly, it's one of the best ones around... but I will not be recommending Alice in Wonderland

I've been to Ensemble about 8 times. This was the first time it had a show that I had seen elsewhere, and this smaller theatre is perfect for that show. As usual, the shows are thought provoking and staged. I have never been disappointed. The renovation is fabulous. They really need to post more photos of the beautiful, spacious lobby.

This theater is top notch. We have thoroughly enjoyed the professionalism of every performance...the sets, costumes, actors...all top of the line. All seats are great as it is a small theater. Lots of restaurants in the area, good parking, and a lovely little bar with seating areas to enjoy before the performance. This is the more costly theater that we attend, but it is absolutely worth the ticket price. We return regularly.
