tripadvisorSeriously, if you are taller than 5'8 don't go to this performance venue... it's built for Elfs or Hobbits. I'm 6'5 and there is no way i could sit in those seats for more than 5 mins. I ended up standing in the back for 2 hours because these seats were one step away from pre-school chairs. They have elevators, and handicapped seating but absolutely no where for anyone vertically challenged to sit comfortable and worse; NOT ONE statement about that fact in any description of the hall. Get with the new world that isn't 1913 and create one section that anyone over 6' can come and enjoy this otherwise wonderful performance venue. Until then I won't be back. Honestly the worse seating experience venue I have ever been too.
MoreNo doubt this is a lovely venue with exceptional acoustics for nearly any type of musical or theatrical event. I've been coming here for years and always tried to sit in the orchestra. Recently for Yo Yo Ma I was in the first balcony and have never been in a more uncomfortable seat since the Bolshoi ballet in Russia in the 1980s! Unfortunately is was a miserable experience - very tight seating with my knees up against the seat in front of me. Additionally, each seat is directly behind the seat in front, making it impossible to see the guest performers. It was very hot. The man next to me spilled over into my seat, as his legs were long. It was just so uncomfortable and hot, that he left after Yo Yo Man performed. Having an empty seat besides me helped, but overall this was not pleasant. It's an old, old Auditorium and I understand when it was refurbished several years ago the stair step seating in the balconies, could not be adjusted to add more space. I can only suggest, that if you are coming to Hill Auditorium, and your budget allows it, try to sit in the orchestra where the seating is better. Just know before you go; it's tight! Also to address the reviewer who complained about it being poorly run and very late starting - this has nothing to do with the Auditorium staff, rather ... everything to do with the visiting production company. They don't start the show until they are ready - possibly a performer was late or guests were late arriving; there can be many reasons why a show starts late that have nothing to do with the running of the venue it's in. Don't blame Hill Auditorium.
MorePoorest ran facility concert starts at 8:00 pm doors supposed to open 7:30 still 7:57 pm doors still closed. Wow get organized for $90.00 a ticket you would think it would be ran by somebody who has a clue. You expect patrons to arrive on time how about the staff to prepare instead of telling everyone we’re not ready.
MoreWe went to hear the UM orchestra for Halloween. How FUN! The orchestra dressed in costumes so did many of the audience. If you are a beginner music goer this would be perfect for you! Not too long and engaging. There is one note to be said. There were too many babies screaming and parents did not take their babies to the lobby. I didn't understand why this place had so many ushers but not one asked parents to take their baby out to the lobby. It really took away from the concert. All you heard was the screaming and children talking through the ENTIRE concert.
MoreCan't beat it for a concert or a speaker. The pipes are great and whether it is the M glee club or the band singing the Victors, a performance of THE MESSIAH, THE TEMPS AND 4 TOPS or a politician, it is great.
