tripadvisorI have lived in Washtenaw County for more than 30 years but had never been to Independence Lake! Like Rolling Hills, it has an admission fee ($6). This summer, the water park is not open (due to COVID). The day I visited, the beach was full! I came to walk the trails and thoroughly enjoyed them! You can print a map from the website; I was able to pick up a map at the Beach Center (which also has flush toilets and a snack bar). If you walk the trails, bring bug spray! The trails meander through a variety of habitats (woods, marsh, prairie). I also enjoyed picnicking in the shade by the beach. My trip was a lot of fun; I'll be back!
MoreThe splash pad at Independence Lake is a lot of fun! There is something to do for all of my kids, ages ranging 2 to 12!
MoreHiking trails are nice, lake is clear and shallow but gross to walk in, you sink in muck. Lots of goose poop. Splash pad is an additional price to paying to get into the park.
MoreThis is a lovely park , with a small lake and beach, swans, fishing pier, playgrounds, paddle boats, rowboats, picnic pavilions and walking trails. It’s great for little kids because the beach/fishing pier/playground area is compact, plenty of picnic tables and close to the parking lot. The water is super clear, and there are well maintained restrooms and a concession stand that sells ice cream and snacks a short walk away. There is even a lifeguard on duty. This is an excellent place to take younger kids fishing—- loads of tiny fish and because the water is clear you can see them coming. My 10 year old had a great time on his own — he probably caught 10 fish ( only 2”-4”) in 2 hours and just threw them back in. We went on a weekday and it was nice and quiet, just a couple of boats out.
MoreLots of walking trails and picnic areas. A nice family destination for fun afternoon anytime of the year. In the summer, a splash park and water slide will keep the kids amused. In the fall, enjoy either a trail or paved walkway to enjoy the changing leaves.
