Some helpful tips. The home photos that some have posted is not on the college grounds . The house address is 131 Crane Drive and not open to the public. For directions to the study GPS Cowles Hall Elmira College and park behind it. The Study is right beside Cowles Hall. After you tour the study go into Cowles Hall and go across the center space to see more photos. There is a sign.

Mark Twain’s summer house and study are both located on the grounds of Elmira College. The college was built in 1855 and was an all womens college. It was the first in the USA to grant actual degrees to women as they graduated. It was nice to drive through and see the area.

Mark Twain’s summer cottage/study can be found on the grounds of Elmira College. The college grounds provide a beautiful back drop to Mark Twain’s study which is quite small and quaint. It is amazing to think that such notable books were created within the confines of such little space. In Cowles Hall located right next to the study is a very informative exhibit on Mark Twain. It is worth your time to visit this little piece of history, especially if you are a fan of Mark Twain’s writings.

I saw this in conjunction with Mark Twain’s grave, the Corning Glass Museum, and the Rockwell Museum. Though the furnishings aren’t original, the entire structure is original, as is the floor, the fireplace, windows. The structure was moved from the Twain summer estate to Elmira College in the 50s. Even the stone fireplace was taken apart and rebuilt stone by stone. He wrote some of his best known work here. It was a neat little stop off, and it would have been heavenly to relax, think, meditate, nap, or write here. Elmira College has some nice architecture and a pretty fountain as well.

We were very surprised this was open at the time we were there to visit. The big exhibit of Mark Twain and the Langley families is in Cowles Hall at Elmira College. It's in walking distance from the study. Both a must see for Mark Twain fans.
