tripadvisorAn intimate community theater brought together by a talented band of actors and support volunteers who I'm pretty sure pour endless energy into the productions with gratitude and applause the only payment. We have seen some remarkably good plays here, often provocative, since discovering the theater two years ago. The online reservation system is simple, and you pay what you want after the show – cash, check, credit card or Venmo.
MoreThis small and mighty company is setting the standard for accessible theatre in their community. I was blown away when I learned about their pay what you decide pricing model. It means a lot that anyone can see a cutting edge show without the barrier of cost, and the resident company produces quality work! I wish I lived closer so I could see their entire season.
MoreIt was an engaging and interesting experience to be in this small, intimate theater. We enjoyed being so close to the actors. Great concessions. Very reasonable ticket price. We will definitely go back
MoreIn the interest of full disclosure -- after being a fan and patron of Mad Horse Theatre for 20 years, I recently joined its board (my first & only board experience). That's how much I appreciate the amazing work this small but mighty non-profit does. I can't count the number of times I have left a Mad Horse production saying, In the hands of lesser actors, that play would not have been fun to watch. Mad Horse chooses material that is sometimes challenging and always makes you think. It's a little off the beaten path, but with Elsmere BBQ, Otto pizza and Saltwater Grille in the neighborhood, it's easy to make a night of it!
MoreWe love seeing live theatre while visiting other states, and our friends who live in Maine, recommended Mad Horse to us. I was really impressed with the quality of this 30 year old theatre company. Even before the performance began, we knew we were in good hands when we read the history of this company in the program. They choose plays that are edgy and innovative. They aren't afraid to take risks or to be bold. I admire that. The theatre space isn't big but the actors utilize it in a variety of creative ways. The production we saw was wonderfully directed, masterfully acted, and very thought provoking. I was surprised there were any empty seats because the production had just opened and it was superb. I hope more folks will find this little gem and support them. Mad Horse Theatre embodies what theatre should be.
