tripadvisorWe´ve come to Holland, MI in a couple of occasions during the Tulip Festival but had never been to Veldheer´s. Now I can say that this is, by a long shot, the best place to see tulips. This is a tulip farm. Imagine acres full of tulips of all sorts and colors, organized by rows. Very similar to what you see in The Netherlands. Each section is numbered; you can grab a catalog in the entrance and writ down which tulip type you like. At the end of your visit you can place an order: bulbs are shipped approximately in October for planting during fall. One thing we didn’t see was the buffalos! There are some in the grounds we were told. Understandably so they are not very sociable, so you’d have to walk to the very end of the farm to find them. You can purchase bison´s meat in the same store you purchase the tulip bulbs. In the same grounds there is a store with Dutch-style goods: cookies, wooden shoes, chocolates, ceramics and porcelain items. There is a good size parking area. Still, not enough sometimes for the large crowds during the Tulip Festival.
MoreThe variety and quantity of tulips is second to none in the Holland area. Providing chairs for people to take a rest and enjoy the flowers is appreciated and enjoyable. Being able to order bulbs while seeing what they look like is great also. Very enjoyable and definitely a must stop if you are in the area around tulip blooming.
MoreWent during tulip fest and almost nothing was growing let alone in bloom. Very disappointing. Shop had almost nothing in stock. The factory inside wasn't in operation either, also disappointing. You could order bilbs but you wouldn't get them until fall. When you've forgotten that you ordered them.
MoreIf you want to see lots of tulips, this is a great place to go! You can only see them for a few weeks in the spring, but it is worth a trip. You can also purchase klompen here for a fun souvenir. *Important tip from an alumni Dutch dancer: if you’re going to wear klompen, make sure to put on at least 5-6 pairs of socks!
MoreGlass viewing areas show the wooden shoe factory and Delft blue factory facility that is within a large gift shop area. No one worked the factory when we visited in May. The general grounds and ambience were rather bedraggled. We did not pay the $12 admission to the garden as it didn’t look inviting especially after we had been to Windmill Island Gardens. The store sold some bulbs, but not many were there when we frequented.
