We visited Yuko-en on a Tuesday morning for a quiet walk. This place is so peaceful and lovely, filled with trees, flowering plants and pops of color from the footbridge and the Raku House. There are benches and statuary throughout the garden plus a Japanese-style stone garden and a couple little waterfalls. Yuko-en is small but beautiful - and hidden behind large gates that open to the garden and the strolling path. The sign near the gate notes this is the Official Kentucky Japan Friendship Garden.

I and my friends went to a bonsai exhibit hosted by the central Kentucky bonsai society on Saturday, may 18. The exhibit was beautifully staged by the Society and was held in the pavilion. After viewing the exhibit, we walked the grounds of Yuko -En. It is a gorgeous Japanese -Kentucky friendship garden (as the plaque indicates) and was wonderfully serene and peaceful . It was a wonderful place to go and we will plan to visit again.

So disappointing. We thought this place looked nice and would be a good place to take a short walk. But it was terrible. Very run down, no flowers or anything garden like. Some shady seeming people lurking around watching us with angry looks on their faces. It seems like this has gone downhill and no one cares to keep it up but may have been really nice at one time. We didn't finish the full walk around because of the hostile seeming people hanging around. Complete waste of time.

Dreadfully run down and unkempt. Such a shame, it could be a beautiful spot for contemplation and education.
