Temple B'nai Jeshurun Landmark

Temple B'nai Jeshurun was originally established at Des Moines in 1873 as an Orthodox congregation, however in soon went on to become Iowa's first Reform congregation and is a part of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations. The current building of this synagogue was built in 1932. With its striking dome, richly colored stained glass windows and painted details, the temple is marvellous setting in which to celebrate the glory of God. Although the synagogue lies at the center of all of the community's religious and communal activities, it strives to create a “living Judasism” that exists within each individual outside the temple as well. Apart from regular Shabbat services, the temple also organizes special events, festivities and religious education for all its members. While firmly grounded in tradition, care has been taken to adapt teachings and practices to meet the needs of modern American Jews.
